    Heidi,

ALL Moms hope to survive the teenage years of a daughter! As my mom's shrink said, the hardest years of your life are the year that you are 13, and the years that each of your daughters are 13! I think you can easily extend that to include the entire teenage range.

Just found this thread and love it! Divine - great picture of you and your son... and beautiful surrroundings! And Kandy - what an amazing backyard. North Carolina is one of my favorite states (along with South Carolina...).... great area of the country. I am CONSTANTLY thinking of things to add to my bucket list. Every time someone mentions something or I see something I think "oh, I want to do that!" I have to agree with Goodie that my biggest priority is trying to live the way I did before cancer... but also trying harder to do things NOW, instead of just thinking I'll do them someday. Here are my top ten, and I realize a few are out of my control:

    1) See my youngest son - now a junior in high school - graduate from college

    2) Be around to meet my future grandchildren

    3) Italy is my favorite country in the world. I'd like to live there for six months and learn to speak conversational Italian.

    4) Take a trip to Nova Scotia

    5) Hike the entire Pacific Coast Trail (being around to meet my grandchildren is a little more likely....)

    6) Take a trip to New Zealand with all four of my children (planned for Dec of this year)

    7) Climb Mt. Kilamajaro (again, grandchildren are probably a little better odds.)

    8) Leave some sort of lasting legacy, besides my children.... which are the best thing I could possibly leave.

    9) Learn whatever lesson I am  intended to learn as result of  this cancer journey... develop the awareness I know I need to....

    10) Plant a huge garden, learn to make pottery, run one more marathon.

I think I went over.... see - I keep thinking of more and more...

    XO

    Andrea

Hey Andi, Nothing wrong with a long list. That way you will never run out of ideas as you continue to thrive! I am one of those people who does not comprehend when people say they are bored???? A few more of mine are: to become a more recognized artist, teach an art class for seniors or kids, see my kids get married (all in their early 20's right now) downsize our house to a cute little cottage so we can have more fun, concerts galore!

Andi, your comment is also my approach, too.

I've been to Turkey, stagefree! But I must have missed you....

My list is pretty short. I don't enjoy travelling anymore as I have to use my cane and/or wheelchair at the airport. Can't stand the line-ups and the flights. Glad I traveled a lot when younger and healthier.

I do want to skydive, but I'd break like matchsticks so I'd have to do a tandem dive, which is okay, but I really want to fly.

Done the motorcycle thing, traveled a lot, scuba dived, a lot of stuff. I keep reminding my DH of what to talk to me about when I'm on my deathbed. I remind him of some of our adventures and how great it will be to relive them. I'm trying to give him something to talk about as he watches me die.

I'm a homebody too and used to live closer to our kids and grandkids but never saw them much. We moved 3 1/2 hours away which took the pressure off expecting to see them. We weren't the first babysitting choice, which hurt and my birthday is a week after Mother's Day and my DH's is a week before Father's Day so it seemed like a command performance in May/June that was granted begrudgingly. Do I sound bitter? Hmmm, maybe I am.

I want my grands to remember me more active but my get-up-and-go got-up and went! We bought a 197 year old Gothic Revival and are having a blast pecking away at decorating (painting) the rooms and enjoying seeing what comes up in the garden. Here we are with a big house (cheaper in the country!) with no one coming over! Oh well, we enjoy it.

I'll have to come back when I'm not so cranky.

I was able to cross of a bucket list item last week! Despite over 100K yearly entries into the Saturday Night Live ticket lottery, I somehow actually won tickets to the dress rehearsal to last week's show. It was amazing to see how it all comes together and was even funnier in person. It was something I've always wanted to do, especially as a born and bred New Yorker who grew up watching the show!

Becs I am so jealous! LolThat's great you got to see that! Last night I couldn't sleep and ended up watching Seth Meyers whose guest was Dana Carvey. They were both so very entertaining, I was glad I was awake to watch!

    Wow on those tickets, Becs!!

Barbe, I'd be afraid of getting a heart attack mid-dive, nevermind about the bones!

Barbe, your post about your family makes me sad. I know relationships are hard. My adult kiddos have not married, ( yet ? ) so no Grands or in laws. Your house sounds interesting, like a labor of love.

Becs, happy you got to see the show. That is HUGE ! I watch SNL, love all the political humor.

    Andrea, love your list.

Ebru, you have such an inspiring way with words. I loved your star analogy on Nancy's thread.

Right now, today, my "bucket" list is to make it to Costco for pain meds.....stinkin Cancer !

Holeinone, another bucket list item I scratched off my list was I got a hole in one in the Fall of 2014!! Right in front of ground crew and not just my DH - added much more validity.

Barbe, Congrats ! I am so jealous. Did you have to buy drinks for those in the clubhouse? I went golfing about a month ago. Only played 4 holes, my stinkin liver & body was screaming at me. Hoping to get to play again this summer, if my body will allow it.

Well since I started this thread I thought I'd update my list. I took a train round trip from Minneapolis to Everett, WA in April. It was a blast plus the topper, I had my own room which included a bathroom/shower. Since I'm neutropenic I wanted to be as hygienic as possible so no sharing a public restroom for me. AND while I was away my DD2,got engaged. Wedding is this December so yay!

So I'm thrilled to be able to cross those off my list.

Congratulations Amy! That is exciting. I was thinking that we should definitely post our bucket list items as we cross them off. I also crossed one off this last week although it was ANOTHER that I didn't have on my originally published list. My husband and I went to Scottsdale for a long weekend... and went to see Frank Lloyd Wright's house - Tallison West. I've always wanted to see at least one of his houses, so now I can say I have done that. It wasn't exactly what I expected, but definitely worth seeing.

Hope everybody is having a good Memorial Day Weekend!

Holeinone, there was no one at the clubhouse when we got back as it was late October so I didn't have to spend a penny!

Andi, I live two hours from Franklin Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater. Before bc, in 2009, dh and I were on a rare getaway by ourselves and this was one place we visited. Here's what surprised me most: On a lazy afternoon in the middle of the week, in the middle of summer, we drove a long and winding country road with very little traffic, thru the quiet Pennsylvania woods and hills. Very serene. We finally turned into the lane at Fallingwater, drive a bit more, and then around the bend were several parking areas filled up with cars. In the middle of seemingly nowhere. We walk to the visitors' area, a big pavilion type place made with natural wood materials, blending beautifully with the surroundings, and it was bustling with people. People waiting for their tour time to start, others in the busy bookstore, some eating in a little restaurant at the place. It all sprang to life in the middle of the woods. It was the neatest thing. And we had no idea that how many people were still interested in visiting Fallingwater, especially after all these years the house has been there. The tour was so cool and we got several photos that are my favorite of dh and I. Here's one:

Divine - this is a picture of Tallisan West! Very different than Falling Waters. The picture of the two of you is wonderful! That house looks so peaceful and serene...I love all of the trees! I really hope I get to see it someday. This one was interesting. Also out in the middle of nowhere.... as you can see, built from stone pulled from the desert and from concrete they made from sand and water. You had to duck you head to go into all of the rooms.... and the doors were all hidden! The white roofs are actually made of canvas. What's really interesting is that this house is also a school... every year 40 artichtectural students come here to study for 3 years... they spend 8 mo here and 4 mo at the house in Wisconsin when it gets too hot. They live in TENTS IN THE DESERT right outside of the house. When they are done with the 3 years they receive a Masters degree. I just couldn't imagine living in the desert in a tent for 8 mo... with the snakes and the scorpions, etc. Anyway - it was lovely and I am really glad we went, but I do hope to see the one near you at some point! Something else for my Bucket List.  Thank you for sharing!

    XO

Andi, thanks for sharing your photo and story of Taliesan West. The house is so beautiful in its surroundings. I love how Wright's architecture blends in harmony with its environment. Tho I forgot the details, I remember watching a segment on a home improvement show with Lynette Jennings years ago which featured the classes at Taliesan. They must really be dedicated students! But I think that's when I first heard of Franklin Lloyd Wright. Id love to see it, too

How fortunate that you both visited FLW homes. Though I admire his works, I am much more fascinated by his personal life, which I only learned about several years ago.

My dad has been in poor health this past year, so I will be spending time with him in NJ this summer. Still working on the Panama Canal and Cuba for the next big trips, as well as the Northern Lights inNorway.

Caryn - I am also fascinated by his personal life. Did you read Loving Frank? I read it a few years ago and had no idea.... I'd always admired his work but didn't know anything about him as a person.

The Northern Lights in Norway would be incredible.... that's a good thing to have on your list.

So over the past week, I have gotten closer to one of my life's goal and beating 7 friends in our 50 state contest. I took a an 11 state (!!) road trip with a friend this past week, and hit three more. This brings my count up to 47 and just leaves me with 3 states remaining to reach all 50. The friend closest to me is missing 5, so not only did I take the lead, but I am sooooo close.

I am determined to get the final 3 before the end of year.

Becs that is awesome! Finishing the states is on bucket list as well, and I hope to have it completed by next summer. I have 7 left ; 1 of which will be done at the beginning of August. I would love to know your remaining as well.

The purpose of the trip was to keep my childhood friend company as she drove her car from Florida, where she just finished her PhD to Minnesota, where she got professor job. We took a roundabout way so I can add in more states.Among the states we visited, the three new ones I got were Indiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas. The ones left are Oregon, Idaho, and Colorado.

We did a mix of typical touristy stuff, like the St. Louis Arch and the Bill Clinton Library, and fun, randomroad-trip stops like the Vacum Museum, Micheal Jackson's childhood home, and a place called Uranus, Missouri. It was the butt of many jokes.

Here is a group of some of my fav pics. imageimagePimageimage

WOW Becs, your medical history is overwhelming and quite amazing! You MUST be a very strong young lady to have endured such treatments for so many years! I'm pretty impressed at your wherewithal. Also your achievements of hitting 47 states. Good for you. Stay strong and positive and let us know when you've hit 50!!!

Hugs to you from a Minnesota girl,

    Amy
