Thank you for posting this! Very interesting. For each of the questions, one highly regarded MO explains why his answer to the question is "yes," while another explains why his answer is "no." The questions discussed are:

1. Should platinum-based or other additional systemic agents be used in high-risk triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC)?

2. Is it time we stopped offering mastectomy to patients with breast cancer?

My wife has breast cancer. About question number 2. "Is it time we stopped offering mastectomy to patients with breast cancer?"

Back in December 2012 my wife was dx'd right off the bat as Stage 4 BC with mets to spine and lymph nodes. AC took care of the spine and lymph nodes. She had a medium sized 100% ER+ tumor still in her right breast. The doctor felt the aromasin was keeping it in check and recommended against an operation. Well a little over a year later it morphed into an aggressive grade 3 tumor. In fact I read of a study where the center of tumors if left in don't get the chemo go unchecked and morph.

Wife is NED for now, the tumor and lymph nodes were gotten in time.
