I was told I need more skin for my the recon of my right breast. I had a mastectomey in 10/14 which could not spare any skin. I didn't need radiation but had the standard ACT chemo for triple negative. I had no expanders placed. I am 18 months "out" and would like a skin sparing prophylactic left and delayed recon on the already missing right. Have any of you been told you couldn't get 2 breasts with your abdominal? Was it due to needing more volume and skin? Is my lack of skin on the right what limits me the most? What is an extended DIEP

I didn't have enough for both just one. I think they can take skin and fat from thigh area.

I think I was limited on skin and tissue, they used everything for left side

I couldn't have a DIEP due to lack of tissue. The plastic surgeon said I had enough skin (thanks to my pregnancies) but not enough fat. He said he could do it, but would require multiple fat grafts from various other areas of my body, and even then he would only guarantee an A cup.

cookies...I also could not have a DIEP due to lack of fat for both. I had direct to implant reconstruction and it was the right choice for me. Good luck and keep us posted...
