Rib pain while pregnant

Hi

I have had rib pain since just after my lumpectomy in 2012. It was much worse and very sore after my mastectomy in early 2013 and then eased back. It has been constant but not intense ever since. Now however, I am 13 weeks pregnant and here it is again. I have looked up chostochondritis in pregnancy and it is very common.

Here are the reasons I'm trying to convince myself it isn't cancer

- I had high wbc during a urine test last week (bone mets reduces wbc)

- I've had pain for 3.5 years and it hasn't gotten worse except when the area is aggravated (mastectomy and pregnancy)

- The pain is directly below where the pec muscle was cut from the rib and reattached (maybe the next rib down but//)

- Chosto is common in pregnancy

- I am carrying a lot of extra 'weight' around my middle right now (pressure on the ribcage)

I'm hoping i can move past the anxiety (can't take my usual anxiety meds during pregnancy) and put this oput of my mind for the next six months so I can enjoy my pregnancy. I am not prepared to cope with the whole testing regime.

Thanks for your support

Holly

Can someone please talk me off the ledge. I'm in a really dark place. Thanks

I would report it to be sure. It most likely is benign but warrants a phone call. Keep us posted

kiwikid, I agree with Kbeee. Call your doctor and tell them that you have rib pain and want it checked out. Hopefully it is exactly what you think it is, but always be sure, especially while pregnant with lots of hormones circulating in your body. Since you can't take anti-anxiety meds, why suffer through months of worry when you can get answers by making some noise. Hugs and keep us posted!

Hi Kiwi! First of all, congratulations on your pregnancy - you WILL enjoy the next several months

For others who may read this, please realize that white cells in urine are an indicator of possible bladder infection and have nothing to do with actual 'blood counts'. Bone mets can affect lab reports but probably not too much until further advanced. High serum calcium might be a sign of problems. Pain is a more likely symptom however could have many other causes, usually benign (although uncomfortable and worrisome until you know for sure)

April & kbee have good advice. Hope you can get things looked at before the weekend and then RELAX.
