Oh my gosh, I am so a political junkie and just found out about this thread from another one! I'm enjoying reading all the back posts, but pretty fast thread, so a lot to catch up on. One thing that takes my mind off cancer, politics!

I am staying out of the common core discussion since I don't know enough about it to comment. I did take DT's "poorly educated" comment as he knows his base is mostly non-college educated white males which poll after poll has mentioned to be the case. I figured he meant it as that

Thanks April- My husband and I both are college educated. My oldest is an attorney, graduated from Union College and Seton Hall law. My other two have MBA's from Boston and Babson Collge. And we're all riding the Trump Train! I believe he will do what he says ..and says what he will do and is absolutely politically incorrect. I'm retired but DH still consulting. Have a fun weekend!

If my son said he wanted to vote for Trump, I would feel that I'd failed as a parent, ha ha. He's not weighing in on the subject, wants to see who the candidates will actually be. I also feel the vp choices will play a small role in the matter. It's just that I raised my son to be respectful of women and their rights and to see them as equals and I feel a vote for Trump is a vote against women.
Son got his bachelor's last year. My husband is an electrician, went to trade school. I have an associates degree. Husband is unhappy with all choices at this point. I shared this on another thread:
Me: This is the most I've ever been interested in an election!
Son: Because of Trump...
me: Because of Hillary!
*Husband groaning about Republican candidates*
Me: You're probably gonna end up voting for Hillary!
Husband: I don't see that happening...
Me: Because she's a woman!
Husband: Because she's a Clinton!
We are all good humored about the topic

In going over past posts I'm seeing that Marijen/Ooo has left and deleted all her posts. I'm sorry to see that, and very unfortunate if you're still out there reading. Or has she completely deleted her profile? I found she was "last seen" March 30.

Divine, my husband's an electrician, too, and I also have an associates degree with one daughter in high school who is a huge Bernie supporter! I saw in past posts a couple people took their kids to the caucuses and I so regret that I didn't take my daughter! It never even occurred to me, but it would have been a very teachable moment and a good memory. I was just two weeks out from surgery, bad snow storm that night, and I just couldn't muster the energy, but now I so wish I had because I think she would have been so excited. If only I hadn't been so concentrated on just me I might have thought of it.

Miller, please don't regret that you put your health ahead of the caucuses. Even tho you felt you missed a teaching moment with your daughter, you actually are teaching her that it's the right thing for a woman to put her health and well being first. Your body has been through much, so don't minimize that.
I don't know Trump's children personally, only what their public image is. I have noticed that Trump often comments on Ivanka's beauty, (along with some questionable comments, saying he'd date her if she wasn't his daughter).
Regarding his daughter Tiffany (whose mom is Marla Maples): Trevor Noah of The Daily Show aired footage of Trump talking about Tiffany when she was one year old:
Trump: "Well, I think that she's got a lot of Marla. She's a really beautiful baby — she's got Marla's legs." Then Trump pointed to his chest, gesturing the silhouette of large breasts."We don't know whether or not she's got this part yet, but time will tell."
Trevor thencommented, "We know for sure that there's no female too small for Trump not to reduce her to her body parts. I don't even think Trump was trying to be funny or provocative, it's just an impulse for him."

I don't know who "o" was. I think she was probably outnumbered here. Once you get to know everyone there are only a couple sisters here that may have made her feel uncomfortable. But if you can't take the heat in the kitchen, then she did the right thing. I do NOT put down other candidates that I don't like. I like to support my beliefs!! If I can tolerate Trumps ego... I can participate here! He shares that quality with a few in this thread!

A hot topic in Wisconsin that's relevant to the national election is voter ID. Per this morning's WI State Journal, two separate comments about the state's voter ID law this week set off a tempest about why Republicans passed the law in the first place.
On Election Day, Todd Allbaugh, a former aide to Sen. Dale Schultz and U.S. Rep. Scott Klug, wrote on Facebook that the voter ID law was "the last straw" for why he left the Republican Party. Allbaugh described being in a closed Senate Republican Caucus during the voter ID debate and how "a handful of GOP senators were giddy about the ramifications and literally singled out the prospects of suppressing minority and college voters." In an interview Allbaugh declined to identify which state senators he was describing, but said one of them discussed in closed caucus that the voter ID law was about winning elections.
Later Tuesday, as election results were rolling in, Republican U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman, who was a state senator in 2011 during the voter ID debate, told a Milwaukee TV reporter that the GOP presidential nominee has a chance of winning Wisconsin this year for the first time since 1984 partly because "photo ID is going to make a little bit of a difference."
Former GOP Senate aide Todd Allbaugh says he left the Republican Party because of its position on voter ID. Asked about Grothman's election night comments, Allbaugh said Grothman "outed himself" and the Congressman should be taken at his word.
Grothman's office didn't respond to two requests for comment. Allbaugh, whose Facebook post generated national attention, said he received a call from Grothman on Thursday, in which the Congressman said he believes that Democrats cheat at elections, but he can't prove it.
Allbaugh said while some Republicans truly believe there is widespread voter fraud, even though there isn't evidence to prove it, there is a smaller segment of Republicans, including Grothman, who know voter ID will make it harder for college students and low-income people to vote.
"I think he knows the ramifications," Allbaugh said. "But I also believe that he believes in his heart that there's widespread voter fraud, even though he admitted to me he can't prove it. Don't you think you ought to have proof beyond a doubt before you do something to impede somebody's constitutional rights?"
Schultz said he wasn't present at the caucus meeting during the part that Allbaugh was describing, but he said he was "honor-bound" not to disclose private conversations that occur in closed caucus. He said he has always found his former chief of staff "to be honest and trustworthy and beyond reproach."

How interesting Maltese! My husband has a Master's degree, I have a Bachelor's and my daughter is an Attorney and a partner in her law firm in Boston. She graduated from BU Law but considered BC Law too and chose BU.
My son has a Bachelor's and owns his own company. This is my second marriage and my husband has two grown kids as well. My husband's son is a journalist and has a Bachelor's from UCONN and his daughter is a teacher (NY) CCNY graduate and all of us are supporting either Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders. How interesting that although backgrounds can be similar, preferences can be so different politically.
Oh and by the way, my son's wife has a Master's degree and supported Marco Rubio and now is unsure.
Edited to add: Wow Badger! That is disturbing indeed. There is so much wrong with this election year, we would be here all day talking about it. Scary and really does not bode well for the future of this country.

PolitiFact Wisconsin rated True a statement by US Rep Mark Pocan (D-Wis) that "More people are struck by lightning than commit in-person voter fraud by impersonation."
I didn't experience it in my small town but in the bigger cities (with *hmm* more minority and young voters) there were long lines (2 hour waits) and people turned away at the polls. Shame.
p.s. the reasoned Canadian is Beesie, a long-time member and world-class expert on DCIS.

No clue as to why marijen/Ooo left. I think we have been quite civil, considering what a hot button issue politics is.
Trump's demographic, in terms of education level is an aggregate figure. Not everyone will fall into one neat category.

Absolutely true Caryn. That is why we posted these backgrounds of our families and us. It is fact that all so called "party demographics" have outliers. Always have, always will. One thing that has been pretty much well known for a very long time is that liberals tend to (in general) have higher levels of education than the traditionally blue collar base that call themselves conservative.
But all bets are off with this "not so traditional" slate of candidates running this election season. It is all over the place from what I can gather from unofficial polling of my friends/family. I work with two people who support Donald Trump but every time we discuss the election, they can never really tell me "why" in a concrete way that makes sense. One of my colleagues actually said she is supporting Bernie Sanders because she is a "card carrying member of the Woodstock nation." Not kidding, she said that!

BTW, Dale Schultz was once Senate Majority Leader and a fierce R partisan but not afraid to compromise. As the political winds shifted, that didn't sit so well with the establishment. Neither did his refusal to vote lock-step with the party because they said so. An old-fashioned legislator, he couldn't be controlled so they went behind his back and found someone to run against him. I know a guy who worked where the party elite had their meeting-before-the-meeting. He described them as a nest of vipers, gleeful at the thought of "springing it on him." Cowardly sons-of-guns.
Dale now co-chairs the Fair Elections Project in Wisconsin, along with former Sen. Tim Cullen, a D who was also Senate Majority Leader in his day. They toured the state a few years ago on what I like to call a civility tour. To me, these elder statesmen are voices of reason.
As you may know, there's a WI redistricting/gerrymandering lawsuit that was just allowed to proceed to the U.S. Court of Appeals. Good. Voters should choose their representatives, not the other way around. Computers and GIS are great when used for the good but it's egregious when used to pack certain voters together, and crack apart other districts, to ensure the vested interests of the ruling party. Glancing through some political articles this afternoon, came across this "gem" and it seems to me to go hand in hand with the voter registration issue that republicans pushed through in Red states. Anything to "get the other party" and particularly their biggest nemesis of all time, President Obama. Oy Vey!

Sue- I almost went to Woodstock! My Aunt lived close to Saugerties and we were going and spending the night at her house etc etc. I still can hear my mom telling me that Aunt Dee just called at it was a no go for me. The Thurway was backed up and she couldn't meet my mom who was talking us to an exit halfway. Aunt said there were lots of drugs and that ended my woodstock venture. I was only 16!

Fox aired the Disrupter last night. Honestly, it was intriguing and I encourage all of you to watch it. I believe it airs again tonight hosted by Bret B. The strong supporter I am for Mr Trump really shed a light that this movement he has stood by and endorsed will be in the American History books that my grandchildren will learn and be quizzed about. It could possibly lead to the fall of the Republican Party and if it does it will be because of our fellow forefathers are squirming in their graves. We the people have spoken and then"E" are blind sided. Funny thing is I do like Megyn Kelly, watched her on Fruday night without turning the channel (another upstate NY gal) who not only is beautiful and smart but is caught up in all this GOP-e crap. Can you imagine them parachuting in a Paul Ryan? Riots? That's an understatement- It will be the end of the Republican Party. Unfortunately I see it as this: if DT does not get his 1237 and doesn't get the delegates needed in round 1. I bet they have no choice but to make the ticket Trump/Cruz. Love fest reunited That would really be the only way to win over the E. I don't like to say things I may regret or retract back on but for now I will call continue to call him Lyin' Ted. He's not on my favorite list and either is Kasich who DH likes. I liked Marco, but he let FN looser Mitt ruin him. Ok sisters that's my take for this wonderful Sunday am. Try not to miss Chris Wallace interview our current president today. Should be interesting. My SIL name is Chris Wallace. Lol. Hugs !

Divine, unfortunately yes. Gambling with OPM (other people's money) is part of the financial shell game.
I agree with much of what Ron Paul says, esp audit the Fed, stop printing money and pay down the debt. Eliminate the tax loopholes and enact a flat tax. It's outrageous that big corporations like GE pay zero. I'm a GE stockholder so get their financial reports. They're not hurting for cash so dudes, pay your fair share.
Pres. Obama missed an early opportunity to send a message to Wall Street about corporate greed. The US DOJ should have gone after the banksters that caused the financial melt-down. They don't care about fines, they have plenty of money and to them it's the cost of doing business, but toss a few guys in jail? That would have curbed their enthusiasm. But it didn't happen and they're emboldened. Right now they're fighting a new WH rule making financial advisors put their retirement investors interests first. Geez I'm naïve, I thought that went without saying.
Loved Sanders WI victory speech and for a brief moment felt the Bern but can't support a $15 min wage. Maybe that's OK for the urban coasties but would be the ruin of many a small business, my family's included. Thousands of jobs will be lost, esp for youth.
LovesMaltese, I stopped believing anything FOX news had to say five years ago during the protests over Act 10. They showed an angry mob (it was peaceful) with palm trees in the background (we don't have those here, esp not in Feb).

Kay- I disagree... I bet he could -- especially when it's time to make a deal and he can finally get everyone to come together and do it... and maybe together as in undivided could possibly change some rules that are so needed to be rewritten and put forth. He unlike our current President ( I have a hard time saying him his name as does with saying Islamic Terrorism) maybe could finally Make American Great Again.. we are divided and as long as we allow the current 16 years to remain the same for another 8 how can we expect anything but the same old same old? I do not believe for one second that anyone of you can support illegal immigration for another minute. Yes, change the rules so the great illegals here become legal and become tax paying citizens and are not entitled to our welfare benefits that we pay for. Get a real paying job. Hey, I had someone in my dog group say to me that they love the illegal immigrant that is mowing their lawn, then I have a BFF son that tries to have a landscaping business and can't compete because he pays accordingly. So what does that mean? It means we are really doing something wrong here in the states. Keep our boarder secure... no more drugs and come in legally. DT cannot deport all illegals but we sure as heck can try and get the bad guys out.
BTW- I got my new macbook yesterday.. can type faster now and off of that I phone!!
