Hi--

I've just started this journey and have chosen a BS at UTSW. I will likely used a PS at UTSW, but wanted to know if anyone has any reccomendations either from UTSW or elsewhere? Can you also provide info on what you'd be looking for in a PS in hindsight?

Thank you!

Dr. Rozen at UTSW is my PS. Everyone I've asked at UTSW, including my surgical oncologist and oncologist, have told me that he is excellent, and that has been my experience with his work as well. Don't think they say that about everyone either, because the oncology nurses are pretty frank in sharing that only a few PS are recommended by their dept. I hear that he isn't as warm and fuzzy as Dr. Teotia, who has a much bigger rep as a breast reconstruction surgeon. Dr. Rozen was trained at Johns Hopkins and is actually a cranio-facial surgeon, which means that he has the exact skill set for doing breast reconstructions. He's been doing BS for 7-8 years, so he has plenty of experience at this point. I found Dr. Rozen to be very concerned with his patients' well being, and his recommendations were conservative in the sense that he prioritized treating my breast cancer ahead of having the best aesthetic outcome. I had a lot of complications with reconstruction, including wound healing problems, and an infected TE. He was always positive that there was another path, and was determined that I would end up with a reconstructed breast. I really think I would have given up before he did had my DIEP surgery not been successful.
