Lived through surgery
I finally had my surgery on my pelvis last Thursday. I debated over it up until the last moment. The surgeon said that it couldn't have went any better. There were 9 doctors in with me. The main surgeon was very proud of himself. There were some in there that was really just observing and learning. Then I went to recovery and they overdosed me on pain meds. That made me quit breathing. I stopped 4 times and they brought me back. So then I went to intensive care and was put on the CPAP to breathe for me. I woke back up the next day. Got moved the next day to a regular room. They have been awesome here. Very nice place if you need them. So since surgery I have had quite a bit of pain but it is different from what I had. They cut from middle of my stomach to the middle of my back and down my leg. But each day I can tell that it is some better. The best part is that I haven't had anymore of the pain I was having. The surgeon said there was several piece that freely was moving around. He said he was sure it would cause intense pain every time I moved. From walking to sitting or just turning over in the bed. I feel like this surgery was successful and he said I definitely made the right decision. Thank you all for thinking and praying for me. I wish you all the best.

Kandy, I am glad that the surgery is over. It must have been frightening for everyone when you stopped breathing. Thank God you came through all that. Woohoo for successful surgery. It is always a good sign when surgeons are pleased with their own work. I know that recovery will be no piece of cake for you, but you are strong and will continue to improve every day. I will keep you in my prayers and hope for a quick recovery for you. Thank you for giving us the update. We have all been thinking about you. For what it's worth, I think you absolutely made the right decision.
Lots of (((hugs))),
Lynne

Kandy, it is so good to hear from you on the other side of surgery and to know you are recuperating from that a little more each day. Yes, the overdose and having to be brought back four times sounds awful. Glad you got thru that part, too! Many continued prayers for yo u as you continue healing.
The other question.....what about your grandbaby to be? What did you find out you're going to have, a grandson or granddaughter
-
Kandy, I am so glad you have the surgery behind you. It sounds like you are in the best of care, other than the breathing incident! I had surgery in December, and was over medicated, and stopped breathing, but only once. You made the right choice, out of three difficult choices. You are very brave. I wish you a speedy recovery, and your pain remains manageable.
All the best, Melanie
-
Well it sounds like the surgery went well and you are healing up! You are brave. May this be a momentary speed bump and you get on your feet soon. Have a speedy recovery and no more pain med scares. (((Gentle hugs)))
-
Aw Kandy, what good news! You made the right decision. I hope post-op pain disappears quickly and sending recovery vibes and hugs!
-
I'm glad it is behind you and that you sound strong. I hope that you heal quickly. (Sounds scary).
-
It's wonderful that the surgery went well and that you can now concentrate on recovering! I am sorry for the breathing setback, but am glad you are now doing well on your own!
-
Kandy - wow, what an experience, you must have felt like the mayor with all those doctors watching your case! I'm so glad you got through it, very scary about the overdose of pain meds though. Prayers and best wishes to you as you continue to recuperate.
-
Kandy, that pain med OD was a scary story, but here you are--alive and posting! Congratulations on what sounds like very successful surgery. Be good to yourself!

So good to hear from you and your decision was successful. So glad you got through the overdose of pain meds. Thinking you must feel relief to have this huge surgery behind you. And now you know why your pain was so bad.
Healing now. Recover each day a little at a time. That was a huge surgery. Best wishes for recovery.

Kandy, congratulations on the upcoming arrival of a new grandson! When is the baby due?
-
He is due August 28th. I have seen him on ultrasound. Adorable. I love him so much. I'm going to be called MiMi. I have already wrote him letters. I want him to know how much I love him. I think I am more excited than when I was pregnant. Thank all of you for all your help.
-
Yep there was a reason you are so tough. Mimi. I'm so happy for you. Glad you're relatively pain free and a grandson! Keep us posted.
-
Kandy, I am so happy to hear that it went well and that you have some relief! You have had a tough Fall/Winter. Wonderful news!
-
Kandy! I am sooo happy and relieved for you. What an ordeal you have been through and I agree with the women here that you are one brave girl. Thank God you pulled through the med debacle! (as if you did not have enough on your plate) And it sounds like you have a huge chance of healing very well and mostly being rid of that excruciating pain. Congrats on the upcoming baby boy! That is the best ever. You made my day!
-
Oh Kandy, seeing your post made my day too! In spite of the super scary od experience, sounds like the surgery was successful and you are on the road to recovery. I imagine there will be quite a bit of pt in your future, but after the last 6 months I think you can withstand most anything. Keep us posted on how things are going. Hope your pain is less and your strength a little greater every day.
And that new grandbaby on the way! Now that you know this one is a boy, you will have to save all those pretty pink crocheted pieces for the NEXT grandchild! So happy for you.
-
Kandy, so happy to read your update. Whew. What an ordeal. But it's behind you now, and let the healing begin! Physical therapy can work wonders over time, so I hope you'll be kind and patient with yourself. And that grand baby boy… how wonderful. Lots to celebrate! Sending love...

Happy preGrandma Mimi! Now if that doesn't motivate recovery nothing will! What happy news for everyone in your family!
-
Kandy - I'm so glad to hear the surgery is behind you and that everything went well (except for the not breathing part...yikes!). Hopefully you will continue to feel better each day until soon there is no more pain!
Congrats on the future grandson, so much to look forward to!

Kandy:
Let me add my relief that surgery is behind you, and you are on the road to recovery. Great news to hear about you and your upcoming grandson's arrival in August. Rest as much as possible and get back to living again! Ann

Just wanted to thank all of you for your support that you have given me. All of you are awesome. I have now been home for 5 days. I have to say things could not be going any better. Every day gets a little better. My DH said I had even picked up speed with my walker and by next week he would need one to keep up, lol. I am still really sore from surgery but no hip pain. I am only putting partial weight on that hip so far. Surgeon said he would let me start bearing weight some in 4 weeks. So excited for that to get here since I haven't walked since September. I wish all of you the best.
-
Kandy,
May your recovery continue to be uneventful and as pain free as possible. It's so exciting to be awaiting the birth of a grandchild, and what a great incentive for continued healing. I have a granddaughter and am expecting a grandson in about a month. I am also Mimi, though sometimes shortened to Meems by my granddaughter. Take care.

I am "Granny" by choice, and absolutely love Meems. Adorable, exbrnx!
Kandy, I am really happy for your steady day by day recouperating. It is so good to hear
-
WOOHOO for you, Mimi Kandy...now doesn't that sound luscious!!! I laughed when you said you were more excited than when you were pregnant...my friend told her kids the only reason she had then was to have grandkids...HA :-)
So very happy the best choice surgery went well (aside from the stop breathing part...yikes!!!). Your attitude is remarkable & I'm sure that total weight-bearing date will be here before you know it!!! To hear that awful pain is gone is reason to shout out loud!!!! Keep up the great healing :-)
-
Kandy, I almost quit breathing when I read your post! I'm so happy that you are recovering at Top Speed in so much less pain. What a good choice you made after careful consideration of what seemed to be only bad choices!
-
Kandy, you must be on cloud nine to get rid of that pain. Keep on cruising on that walker and soon you'll be chucking it away. I hope you and Caryn both will post pics of the new babies!
