Hello. Im getting my papilloma removed tomorrow. I opted for just a local because I'm almost phobic of being "put under". I'm starting to get nervous. Can anyone tell me how long this normally takes from first cut to stitches. The Dr said that it is 2in into my breast tissue if that helps. I have a wire marker from a sterotactic biopsy to guide her. Thanks

ts, I cannot answer your question as I have not had this surgery. I hope you do get other responses soon. I do hope your surgery goes well tomorrow, and I am sending up a prayer for you and a calm spirit. Please udate when you can. Hugs!

assume it is a palpable mass... then it is excision surgery where they remove the lump and a small rim of tissue

Normally a day procedure that takes 45 minutes and an hour or two to recover and wake up

Pain after can be managed with paracetemol and is rarely an issue

Re read you are going local. I was put out

I had a papillary carcinoma removed via lumpectomy. I opted to be put out, which was a good choice for me. It was surgery, but not a huge deal, not SURGERY. I've had abdominal surgery.

Also if you had a biopsy by fnab like i did there can be cytology overlap with lesions

My diagnosis was papilloma and they proceeded to excision. I scoured the net and here for information on it and then after 5 weeks of worry it was a fibroadenoma that was found after excision and pathology

Just saying it is very accurate but there are overlaps and science is not an exact art

Science is not actually an art at all. :-)

    Hi ts,

I'm healing after having 3 removed. I however was put completely under. This is a very easy surgery. You will be given a medication in your IV that will make you sleep. (Proppanoyl spell? the same stuff michael Jackson used) This is after your wire had been placed. Which also is easy. They will numb up that area of your breast then using mammogram to guide the wire to your papilloma. Now back to surgery. Wire is placed, you are sleeping, they will make a small incision to follow the wire down to your papilloma. It is cut out smoothly, getting everything and you ate sewn up. I have stitches on the inside and at skin surface. These stitches will disolve. Yea! Your papilloma will be sent to the lab to be looked at under the microscope and you will be notified of anything looked unusual. After surgery you will wake up fast due to not being put completely under. You'll have take home instructions on your wound care. And that's about it my friend. So don't worry too much, very easy. ;)

Well the local was a very bad idea. Had to tell dr twice I could feel her cutting. Not fun at all. If I ever go through this again I'll be put under no question. I did get the results back and it was benign so at least that is over. Its still extremely sore though. I went back to work yesterday and think I did a little to much lifting. ( I do semi-manual labor) I'm asking the guys around me for help now. Go for my follow-up apt next Monday so hopefully it'll all be back to normal by then.
