Bone scan. MRI. Which is best?

Options

What have you heard about which one is best for dx bone mets? MRI with contrast? Any thoughts would be good.

I had sudden onset hip pain 18 months ago and my MO ordered bi-lat hip and lumbar MRI as he felt it was the best type of imaging for this - bone scans can sometimes show non-malignant lesions that make further imaging (and more worry) necessary. I also had a DEXA scan because I receive Prolia injections and he was checking for avascular necrosis related to that. The good news was no mets or necrosis, but rather a boatload of orthopedic issues - I'll take it though! Good luck and hoping this is something easy to fix.

Agree with SpecialK. I had a bone scan, happened to have some recent rib fractures (car accident) and the bone scan picked those up, thus requiring a couple of extra views to be safe.

I think MRIs are 3 dimensional too, yes?
