Recurrance

Options

Good morning, I am a ten year survivor dx at 31 stage one grade three plus two dcis tumors all same breast. Four rounds chemo tamoxifen and bilateral mastectomy. I opted no rads. I had tissue expanders with saline originally left side ruptured put in silicone. I recently had new implants put in. I was laying in bed felt lump in unaffected breast. I also was dx with nodule lower right lobe and am waiting for next mri to see if it's changed which is this wk. How can I tell if this lump I'm feeling in breast is the actual implant or something more ..I'm 41 now

The only way to know for sure is to have a biopsy. If it is cancer, since it's in the opposite breast, it would likely be a new primary. It could be a suture granuloma, scar tissue, fat necrosis.....lots of different benign things, all of which are more likely than cancer since you had a mastectomy on that breast as well. The risk is not zero however, so a biopsy could help ease your mind. I had a biopsy with implants in place. Actually I've had 2. One was a surgical biopsy and one was an ultrasound needle biopsy. Let us know how the MRI goes. Hopefully it'll help provide answers. Sorry you're going through this stress!

    Thank you for responding kbee,

I'm guess there's no way to tell if lump is implant or chest wall?
