Just diagnosed and under 30 - concerned about fertility

Hello new friends,

I found out a week and a half ago that I have breast cancer. Infiltrating ductal carcinoma. They are still confirming the stage, but tentatively it's Stage IIA . It's hormone sensitive - estrogen positive. My doctor has mentioned chemo and anti-hormone therapy as likely treatments post-surgery. I'm devastated. I'm 29, turning 30 at the end of march, and have never been pregnant. I hope to have children someday and I am incredibly concerned about the impact of chemo and anti-hormone therapy on my chances of having children. I'm so scared and sad. Are there any helpful resources that describe the options available for young women battling through this? Any advice? Are there any survivors on here who were able to have children post-breast cancer treatment and would be willing to discuss their experiences?

    Hi Orixa,

    I am so sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. I was diagnosed at 26 and having kids some day has been at the forefront of my thoughts since diagnosis. I am now 28 and have to be on tamoxifen for the next 4-9 years. We did a rushed cycle of fertility treatments and were able to preserve some embryos. Hopefully we will be able to use them somr day! My onc put me on ovarian suppression medications throughout treatment- I think it was called lupron. I have Been trying to stay positive about it but it just plain sucks. Sorry to hear that we are in the same rotten boat :(.

    Dear Orixa,

    I am in the same boat except I am nine years older; I found out less than 3 days ago. I am currently hunting for information to try and preserve my fertility, I will try to update you with whatever I can find. You should let your doctor know about your desire to preserve your fertility. I have read and it makes sense that embryos are better than eggs for freezing. Good luck! So sorry this happened to you....
