Aching at mastectomy site

My husband has been experiencing an aching and pulling sensation at his mastectomy scar and underarm with sudden swelling. He has fluid in this area as well, the dr has ordered an ultra sound, 3 week wait. He is 3 years post surgery. We are wondering if this is lymphodema or possible recurrence. Anxious for some answers and appreciate any experience with this.

    Certainly it could be truncal lymphedema, but more likely an infection. Keep us posted with the US results.

    it turned out to be a benign fluid filled pocket behind his mastectomy scar. Possibly caused by lymphadema. They aspirated it and sent it for testing. He feels much better. It just seems strange that something like this would pop up 3 years post surgery but then again there is nothing predictable about this hideous disease....
