fibromyalgia and mastectomy

Options

I have fibromyalgia. My drs could not give me any help on how that would affect my condition.

Is there anyone here who can say how this affected your fm?

Thanks in advance!

I have fibro, I didn't notice anything different. Just try to be as normal as you can, avoid any flare triggers if you can.

I am posting what happened in case people come across this post in a search.

Immediately after surgery, I was not in pain. It seemed since I wasn't in pain they weren't going to give me anything for pain. I thought hospitals gave you pain meds when you were still under so your pain would not go out of control. I didn't even know what I had been given or not given. A few hours after the surgery, I was in a lot of pain. I had severe back pain and pain in my legs. I am not sure how much fibromyalgia played into it. Was it because of a pre-existing back injury? The ace bandage being so tight? Not moving for so many hours etc.

It took them several hours to find me a room. They asked when they had found a room if I wanted them to remove the catheter or go to the room. I said to just go to the room. I told the nurse about the catheter but it was not removed. When the surgeon came to check on me, he saw the catheter. I don't think he was very happy about that. He wanted me to get up and walk but I couldn't until it was removed. They eventually removed it.

They didn't even give me my regular medication for pain. The nurse had to call and get permission to give it to me. I would have thought that would have been planned beforehand.. to at least give the patient the drugs they normally take every day. I hadn't taken my morning medication either since I couldn't remember if they said it was allowed.

I was supposed to walk 3 times. I would have walked more but I didn't want to bother the nurses so much. I felt I could walk on my own but they went with me. My lower body felt very heavy. The walking helped. (usually walking does not help my FM. It does nothing or makes me worse)

Except for possibly the day of surgery, I don't think I have had any pain I could say was due to having FM being flared up from having surgery. That might change when I go back to work.
