I'm not up on ayurvedic medicine as much as I would like, but this seems as good a place as any to discuss the idea of holistic medicine as just being an alternate form of pill to take. Or as some believe, just being more faithful to diet and exercise. The fact is that the body must be balanced so that it can be made strong enough to fight off tumors, and as far as I know, ayurvedic medicine strives to do that. Some of that will involve taking alternate forms of medicine, some will involve diet and exercise, but sometimes you may need to get chelation therapy to get the mercury, lead, and other toxic metals out of your body. You may need to do a parasite cleanse or candida reduction diet. Sometimes your K and Na+ levels will be normal but out of proper proportion to each other and that can cause many problems. Certain yoga moves can help with stress and balancing hormone levels and mediation can help with putting you in the proper mode of thought so that the "placebo" effect of healing can take place. All of these are important.

If you are overweight, the best thing you can do is to get the weight off b/c fat cells produce estrogen on their own. I did a 21 day fast this past June and my estrogen levels plummeted and threw me from overdue peri-menopause into complete cessation of periods and I'm hoping this is it. The best part is that I've had few of the mood swings usually associated with menopause.

So, the short answer is that many times the answer isn't found in a pill, if that's even what you were asking.
