Tell me a (happy) bone island story :)
Hi Girls!
I just had my gallbladder surgery now its time to follow-up on the bone island... only reason they told me to follow-up is because of my history. Anyone else have a bone island on a CT and have to have it followed-up on? I of course prefer happy stories but all stories are welcomed. Everything else on the CT was gorgeous. My onologists nurse doesn't seem worried... doesn't think I even need to come in before my regularly scheduled visit on March 7th. What are your thoughts (those with experience).
THANKS!

Hi Hearmeroar,
I mostly do a lot of reading on this sight, but had to log in to reply to your post. Back in 2013, I had a bone scan and a CT of chest and abdomen. The CT scan showed something on one of my vertebrae which the MO said likely was a bone island. MO wasn't worried about it, and in fact none of the other MD's on the tumor board were worried either. I, on the other hand, was terrified! I saw the image from the CT scan and had no idea how they can tell what's what. It turns out I had to get a PET scan to be certain, not because the doctors were concerned, but because I was considering entering a clinical trial which required a PET to definitively rule out anything cancer related. The PET confirmed that it was a bone island. I do remember how unconcerned the MO was. Apparently bone islands are very common. Hope this helps you

Hello Hear Me Roar
In case this helps...
I was terrified when a spot showed up on the bone scan on thoracic bone number 4 in 2012. The breast care nurse said things often show up on bone scans that aren't cancer such as knocks, minor injuries and arthritis. However, my onc said he thought it was a bone met.
Six months later, after a rescan, the onc and his team agreed it was just natural bone repair!
In addition, I've always had a boney lump - a bone island? - on the bottom of one of my fingers. Not cancerous.
Good luck!

This happened to me. I was freaking out but they compared 2012 to 2013 scans and it was still there with no change.

I also had a similar circumstance. My CT scan read that I had a spot on my hip that was likely a bone island and spots on vertebrae T7, T8, and T9 that were concerning for metastasis. Needless to say, I FREAKED OUT. However, my Oncologist was not worried at all. I followed up with a bone scan and nothing showed up. We are just going to have to check up on it in 6 months to a year. I've learned to let it go and be positive : )

I had I think a couple of bone islands on my CT scan. Had a bone scan and all was well.
