I had reconstruction on my left breast and mastectomy and reconstruction on my right breast on November 17, 2015. After the reconstruction surgery my left hand the three fingers from my thumbs became numbed and tingling and as of February 2016 it still have not gotten better. Can anyone give me any advice how I can get any relief. I had 15 lymph nodes removed.

    Hi Nancy-

We want to welcome you to our community here at BCO! We hope you find the support you need here.

Have you spoken to your doctor about possible nerve damage from your surgery? If not, we would suggest starting there, there could be exercises or physical therapy that will help the feeling return. Did you also undergo chemotherapy before or following your surgery? The numbness you've described could be a symptom of neuropathy, which you can read more about here: http://www.breastcancer.org/treatment/side_effects.... We would suggest discussing this with your doctor as well!

Please let us know what you find out, you're in our thoughts!

Hi Nancy I had something called neurapraxia after my right prophy mx with immediate fat graft in 2011. My biceps was paralyzed for about 12 to 24 hrs. Numbness down arm into fingers and thumb with tingling. Gradually numbness got smaller until it was all gone in maybe 6 weeks or 2 months. Ask your doctor. My surgeon said it was likely caused by arm positioning during surgery.
