Blood too low for 2nd chemo

Options

My chemo was suppose to be last Tuesday but my blood count was too low. I went back today for blood work and it is slowly going up but still too low. Anyone else have this problem? I'm so frustrated.

    Hi DanielleH,

I have missed a round due to low blood counts once, I also did Neupogen. As frustrating as it is, it happened to me too. Maybe ask your MO if there's anything you can do at home to keep your numbers up for treatment, just a thought.

Hi Danielle....i also got Neuprogen week after my chemo

    WBC was like between 2.3-2.7

The day of the chemo was always normal....

What type of chemo are you on and how often ?

It happened to me and I had to wait a week. It really bothered me. I was on Neulasta thankfully or it would have been worse.

DanielleH: I am sorry to hear that your chemo has been delayed. I have not had this problem. I am on my 4th chemo treatment of Taxol and I have not had to get Neulasta or Neupogen. My son has had a very bad cold since Friday. My blood count has been good and I am no longer anemic. I don’t know if this is going to help you but I juice a lot. I eat a lot of beets, broccoli, celery, kale, spinach, garlic, ginger, flaxseeds, and make smoothies with mixed berries such as blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, walnuts, plain yogurt, and dates for natural sweetness. I think that this has personally helped me. I hope all goes well with you, sending you a big hug and warm wishes.

When I began chemo my counts plummeted at my first blood check the following week. It was really frustrating because I felt fine and obviously just wanted to get on with treatment. I came home and tried to eat as nutritiously as possible that week and started taking a multivitamin. I'm not sure if that made the difference or not but counts were just high enough to get my next treatment. After that I didn't have any problems for the remaining 15 treatments.

My doctor said that sometimes your body's defenses get a shock with the intensity of the initialchemo. Then it figures it out and rebounds...as much as "rebounding" is possible with chemo anyway.

Thanks for all your replies ladies. I am still waiting for my blood to go up. I see the Dr. on Monday and get blood rechecked. Fingers crossed. It is really low though. I have been eating a good diet and taking a multi vitamin so I just sit and wait.
