After Surgery

I had a mascetomy - and i am a 100% cancer free, but since i was ER+/PR+, HER2+, (positive 3

my Oncologist is recommending me to do chemo treatments ,Herceptin IV & arimdex for 5 yrs.

i am confused on why he would want me to do the chemo treatments.

Welcome. He wants you to do chemo because mastectomy, although helpful, does not mean a person is 100% cancer-free. Chemo helps kill any circulating cells.

Herceptin is to combat the HER+; Arimadex is to combat the ER+.

Clean margins at surgery does not equate to 100% 'cancerfree'.'

My oncologist did say they got everything & that i was cancer free but as for precaution& preventive he

recommended 2 choices- 1) with the chemo 1) with out chemo - but both with the Herceptin & Armidex.

I understand what the combat is with Herceptin & Armidex , wouldn't that be enough to fit the Her?

I guess the ? is it wise for the 6 chemo treatments

If you would fill in your Profile with information so that replies are related to your DX as TX protocol is different with different types (DCIS, IDC, ILC, IBC), the stage. node involvment all come into play. That helps for those who have dealt with similar to reply.

Surgery is not always the first TX.
