I am newly diagnosed with IDC which shows characteristics of being tubular although the biopsy margins were not clear. I am writing because I felt a small pea size bump under the aerola back in 9/14 and went for my regularly scheduled mammogram in November. The mammo tech taped a metal marker over the bump so the radiologist would be able to double check the area. Three weeks later, I followed up with my primary who said the mammo was completely normal and the bump felt like a papilloma (http://www.healthline.com/health/intraductal-papilloma#Overview1) because it was superficial under the aerola. I felt okay through much of the following year because the bump didn't feel any larger but sometime in the early fall of 2015, I started to worry that it felt harder, less like a pea and more like a bead. I had my annual mammogram again before seeing my primary in November. My primary made again said my mammo was perfectly normal and showed nothing in the suspicious area but I told her it was time to take it out. Primary referred me for ultrasound and the radiologist who did my us said it looks like a small papilloma but referred me to surgery at my request. The surgeon actually did a small excisin biopsy under local just to remove the hard bump and a weeks later, the pathology game back IDC, presumed to be tubular, ER+, PR+, HER2 - . Biopsy margins not clear so diagnosis of pure tubular is pending pathology with clear margins. I guess the lesson here is "always get a second opinion".
