Hmm, interesting. 100% of tested primary BC samples were CMV positive? I used to donate blood to the Red Cross, and I was one of the people that had the blood that is good for babies (no CMV). I'm assuming they figured this out with an antibody test? This doesn't necessarily contradict this article, since it does say people with BC have less antibodies to CMV than those who don't have BC. But is it possible to come back negative even if you have low levels of antibodies?

Fallleaves, It sounds like they are saying the cancerous tissue itself tests positive for CMV even if people are otherwise negative.

This article reminded me of the paper that came out last fall that linked bovine leukemia virus to BC. "the odds of having breast cancer if BLV were present was 3.1 times greater than if BLV was absent."

Could be viruses are having a larger effect than we realize.

Well, interesting. The bugs that live within us and on us are turning the world of research upside down. As a young nurse(1970's) CMV was as scary as the new drug resistant MRSA. If a nurse contracted either she was relieved of duty i.e couldn't work as a nurse again. It was spoken in whispers. Horrible time. 70-80's. In burn units and ICU's CMV and MRSA were a nemesis. They hadn't reached the floors yet. If someone was prego they moved them off those unit's that were known to have CMV as a problem. That's forgotten info.

Now this new pandemic with the Zika virus causing microcephaly brings a new look at how viruses may be causal to genetic change, fetal malformation, diseases unidentified. CMV has deleterious affects to fetuses.
