Hey all,

I'm due to finish chemo shortly and will be going on hormone therapy thereafter. Just wondering what hormone treatment young women have been put on and how they are faring? I know lots of women go on tamoxifen, but I have read that aromasin plus ovarian suppressor is more effective at preventing recurrence for young women (under 35). Any thoughts?

I had an oopherectomy and I'm on an AI and I have to say it's not as bad as I thought a little moody at times yes and some hot flashes but the increased survival rates convinced me im doing everything to fight this beast..I'm 3

    Hello Lottermarine!

After my initial oncology consult in Sept my oncologist immediately suggested the Ovarian suppression+ Aromatase inhibitors for 5 years.

I did my own research on the SOFT trial and found the results to be very good. While im not set to begin until this spring once chemo is done, the oncologist expressed that she really believes this would prevent recurrence even more so than my chemo!

I was just going to post a similar question. I had a double mast with no chemo, BRCA2 +, 100% ER/PR+, and will be starting hormone treatment soon, but I'm not sure which treatment to choose. One onc said to do the Zoladex shot to put me into menopause followed by an Aromotase Inhibitor (due to better results and less side effects from the Tamoxifen). The 2nd onc said Tamoxifen until I'm ready to get my ovaries out, and once they're out to switch to the Aromotase Inhibitor. (I will probablly get the ovaries out within a year- I want to finish my reconstruction surgery next month first and then I have a trip planned in May to Hawaii). He said the Zoladex shots side effects can be very severe and change your quality of life, even more so than regular menopause when the ovaries come out. So in my mind, I'm scared about the side effects of the Zoladex versus the side effects of the Tamoxifen. Or does less than a year on Tamoxifen not increase the blood clot/uterine cancer risk too too much?

    Hey Topaz114,

I've been on zoladex during chemo for the past four months, the main sideffects I've found is hot flushes (maybe 4/5 a day) but tends to be before I go to sleep and thrush, but not sure if the latter is caused by chemo, caused I've only developed it last month since switching to pactaxel. Other than that it hasn't been too bad. Guess you could try it and if it doesn't agree with you try something else

I've been on Zoladex for almost a year now, and I just get hot flashes (which have decreased as the year has progressed). I've heard bad things about the aromatase inhibitors (though Aromasin has been OK for me), but Zoladex? Not sure where its bad reputation is coming from!
