Has anyone had Proton Therapy instead of RADS?

Options

I have discovered that there is a center for proton therapy near me. I am considering a lumpectomy, which would require RADS. But, I am trying to get more information on proton therapy in place of RADS. Any experience?

Has anyone ever heard of this type of treatment or have any links to research? I did a search here on the website and could not get anything to show up about it. Unless I am searching wrong ;)

Ayr, I had traditional radiation, and it was explained to me that my first 25 treatments were with electrons, and my 5 boosts were with protons. They expained the physics to me, but I can't remember details.

exercise_guru - Do you know what her outcome was? Any side effects, etc.? Thank you for replying. I am looking forward to seeing what my surgeon and MO think about it.

Yes, two years ago exactly I was at U. of Florida in Jax at Shands for proton therapy to T-7. 10 treatments. Easiest and best thing I have done. I have had no side effects except that I cannot expose my back to sun where the radiation entered.. Does not look differently just cannot protect me from the sun. I will be glad to give phone numbers and who to contact if anyone is interested. It is a totally cutting edge technology. Carolyn from Music City
