Help! How do larger girls get the right shape?

Hi :-)

Head is still spinning a bit, and I'm sure this isn't an uncommon story.

Have gone from first age related mammogram a few months ago (expecting nothing wrong), through three lumpectomies, an ax clearance, and as the margins were never clear, a mastectomy a couple of days ago. Still, onwards and upwards!

My question is this - the lovely nurses gave us an Amoena standard priform and some extra wadding to start with, and it's good, but we are wondering if it's possible to get it to better match the remaining boob a little better or is it limited by design and weight of fill? I'm a 42dd (ish, depending on bra) and we can't get the matching 'teardrop' type shape from the priform.

We've had a search around the forum (and it's a really great place with some wonderful stories and help!) but haven't found anything quite right yet.

It's not a huge issue, and it's early days yet - this is more something to occupy our minds for a while.

Hi crazyjourney. Breast forms come in many shapes and sizes. You should be able to get a good match. Have you a store near you that carries them? The fitters will help you find the right size and shape. Once you have the size, then online shopping is also an option. It is early days for you yet, they usually recommend waiting like 6 weeks before a fitting.

Be sure you see a Certified Fitter at a Mastectomy Salon or Medical Supply. There are many different manufacturers that have a lot of different prosthesis in not only size but also shape and 'skin tone' to match you.

It takes a while after a MX to be ready to get a 'good' pros. as it takes time for the effects of surgery to get to what is not affected by the surgery (swelling/etc.). Until that time, there are some very inexpensive 'fluffs' that can be used.

It's not as simple as looking in catalogs and picking out 'something' - we are each unique in how we are 'built'. Nor does our 'chest' the same after surgery so not all will 'lay' the same.

A Certified Fitter should be where they have different pros (and mast. bras) to try and get a good fit/match (if they don't have the right one on hand they can order in a better fit). Because I'm on the 'smaller side' (32/34 - A/B), my Fitter always has to order in what she thinks will be the best based on her KNOWLEDGE of the products and her knowledge of ME and returns what is 'wrong' for me.
