Hi there

Happy new year everyone!

Very concerned and frustrated

Diagnosed May 2014 with grade 3 tumor and had double mastectomy

I then started chemo

3 courses of red devil adriamycin every 3 weeks and then moved onto paxitaxal - once a week for 12

completed 8 of 12 and have started with a BAD Skin reaction - my doctor is concerned and has decided to stop the chemo as it may lead to serious consequences

what now... how does this up my risk of the cancer reoccurring etc

I had something similar happen. Did 4 A/C, then was supposed to do 4 taxoter. Did one, had severe allergic reaction. MO stopped further chemo.

When I recovered from that, on to surgery and rads.

3 years later, I'm still NED. Nobody has said if the reaction has increase my risk. I am on Arimadex.

What tx is in your future

I'm allergic to Taxol as well. It makes my throat swell, back hurt, and I cough. My Dr upped the steroids and Benadryl and Pepcid and moved it to a 6 hour push. I've had to stop and restart twice. I've had a miserable go of Taxol, but I have one more left. Have you asked to switch to abraxane? That was plan D for me but it's not generally a first line trx

I am not even allergic to taxol but didn't finish all 12 because my numbers were so low from the carboplatin I was getting with it. My MO didn't think it would matter. There was another thread somewhere here that a whole bunch of people had the same issue, not finishing the taxol, but they all had good results anyway.

You were DXd in May of 2014 and just now doing Taxol after 9 weeks of Adriamycin? Did you mean May 2015?

Abraxane is the form of Taxol that is supposed to be easier to take. It's more expensive, I suppose, but should be available if you were taking the other form of taxol.
