Diagnosed with DCIS in September had a lumpectomy on November 6, 2015 followed by radiation. Today, I now feel a small lump near the stitch area where the surgery was performed.

I am hoping it is scar tissue. Has anyone experienced something like this?

It is likely a seroma or scar tissue, or both. I developed such a lump in the two weeks between my core needle biopsy and lumpectomy, and I was terrified until the radiologist who did the seed implant told me it was a seroma. At my pre-op teaching session, my bs’ nurse-pract. told me that it is normal to feel scarring at the site, as well as electric-zap type pangs where nerve pathways had been cut or otherwise disturbed and are now reconnecting. My SNLB seroma is just now a little knot of scar tissue. And my breast seroma is quite large, with scar tissue forming over it after radiation. But if you’re still worried, bring it up with your surgeon.

Thank you ChiSandy, now I can rest better. I see my oncologist this week so I will mention it to her so I can truly put this to rest. Seems like every week I find something new.

I turned off my notifications for this topic.

Thanks again I really appreciate it

There is a small lump under my Lumpectomy scar as well. I had lymph nodes removed 2 weeks ago. I now have what sounds like a seroma there too. I talked to the NP today and she said she could drain it. I declined. I see my surgeon next week so they will check on it then. My NP said it should reabsorb. I do believe I have overdone it so I have permission to chill a little more! 😊
