Hormonal IUD during chemo

My doctors told me it's ok to keep my hormonal IUD (not mirena but a 3 year lighter version) during chemo. I have hormone negative, HER2 positive breast cancer. I'm just wondering if anyone had theirs taken out on dr reco, or had any side effects from it being in during chemo, because I'm paranoid. :) I'm doing 4x ac followed by 12 weekstaxol, herceptin and perjeta.

    Hi there!

I am Triple Negative and have a Mirena. I asked off the bat if I should get it removed after my diagnosis and my oncologist said no..I guess they think I actually might be up for "relations" during chemo and IUDs are great birth control. .If I was hormone positive I would have gotten it taken out regardless of what the docs said for piece of mind. I am in chemo until April and will likely have it removed then before I have surgery. The Mirena website says it is not for women who have, or had breast cancer.

I am doing 12 weeks of Taxol now, followed by AC.

    Good luck!!!

Hello. I am hormone positive and I did have my Mirena removed and switched to the Paraguard IUD (non-hormonal) shortly after diagnosis. The first time I asked my breast surgeon and MO they both said it wasn't necessary to change, but I did more research and went back to them and they agreed that switching was a good idea. Good luck to you.
