Hi,

I finished radiation Sept. 29 after surgery and chemo. I've had at least 2 broken ribs in the last month on my radiated side. Now I think I have a broken rib on my other side. I have no idea how I'm breaking them. I'm on Arimidex and have osteopenia. I just started Prolia injections.

I just wanted to hear if other's have had similar experiences and if this was unusual or not. Did you do anything about it other than suffer through it?

The RO told me radiation makes the rib bones brittle and if they break there's nothing to fix them

prolia is another name for the exgiva I am taking every month with the tamoxifan to keep my bones from turning to silly putty. does it have side effects?

Xgeva & Prolia are not quite the same. Different doses and different applications. One is usually infusion, the other is a shot every 6 months. Xgeva is usually for bone mets, while Prolia is for osteoporosis (mine was caused by chemo). Yes, the side effects of both can be scary Cliff. You should probably read up on ONJ so you don't have any extractions or implants on your teeth while you're getting this drug.

Catlady - have you had bone scans?
