Chloraprep rash help!

Options
Hi everyone
I had a lumpectomy 12/21. That went ok. Now I have more information T1No grade3 but I have developed a red dotty rash on chest neck and arm. Taking benadryl. I have read that it's from the chloraprep. Any suggestions on how to cope? How long it will last?
Thanks so much.

Call your Dr and talk to him/her. None of us here are medical propessionals so can not tell you what is going on. Only your Dr can.

I just wondered if anyone had that happen to them and how long it would last. I called MD already. Just suggested benadryl.

I had a rash after surgery. Aloe Vera gel helped the most. It didn't itch, thank goodness. It lasted longer than a few days. Good luck!

My surgeon diagnosed my angry rash as a reaction to the Chloraprep when he saw it at my post-op check 10 days after surgery. Since I stoically (and stupidly) told myself that either the rash would either go away on its own or he would deal with it at my post-op checkup, by the time he saw it, the rash had developed royally and had created a fungus infection. He immediately prescribed an oral anti-fungal med and told me to use Benadryl (not hydrocortisone cream) topically to relieve the itching. So checking in with your doctor would be a prudent move. And be sure to add Chloraprep to your allergy list for future medical interventions--some of us would be far better off if prepped for surgery with old-fashioned iodine-based Betadyne!

...And then when they try to slather you with Chloraprep anyway, stop them. And when some other office like radiology tries to give you chlorhexadine or Hibiclens, politely point out that that's also Chloraprep.

Thank you so much! I too tgtg have just tried to tough it out. It isn't aching so much but isnt going away either. I will call Monday and see what she says. I'm definitely putting it on my allergy list.
