I was just diagnosed dcis December 18, 2015. My gyno referred me to an oncologist, supposedly the best, but the appointment isn't until January 12, 2016. That seems so far out. Anyway I'm 54, looks like the "standard" treatment is surgery, radiation and tamoxifen. I haven't heard very good stuff about tamoxifen. I feel like I'll never be the same. I'm grieving.

    hi RLM:

I was in your shoes on Oct 21, DX DCIS one month before my 42nd birthday. I will pass the same advice that was given to me. You have TIME! January is fine. Enjoy your holiday!

My BS exact words yesterday were DCIS to him is cancer but a very favorable form of cancer. He was my 2nd opinion & I ended up choosing him. First place was rushing me. My surgery, Lumpectomy is scheduled Jan 14. I was at Bilateral as soon as I was DX with first place. Then saw Penn surgeon & they are for breast conservation. At least wants me try that first. It was my choice if I wanted to hit it with a "grenade" as surgeon said. Nothing is final until the pathology report from surgery.

I as well am afraid of foreign things like radiation & tamoxifen. Go over to the lumpectomy lounge forum. The women on there are supportive & helpful! We wont know if I need radiation until that path report then if I did I can say no & choose bilateral. I just need to take it one step at a time.

I am sorry you found yourself here! Thinking of you! Merry Christmas!! 😘🎄
