I guess I'm confused as to what imaging is the best for finding bc? I understand all three see things that the other might miss.... but, what is the gold standard? I've had MRIs for other things in the past and there are so many false positive things that light up, that mean nothing. I'm almost reluctant to go through that again.... Why aren't mammos and ultras enough? Or are they???

Its a myth that mammos pick up all malignancies. One reason is if your breasts are dense. Another is lobular breast cancer many times does not show up on a mammogram. Ultrasounds and MRIs are better. The best is breast MRI, but the problem with them is they are very expensive and there are a lot of false positives which then lead to unnecessary biopsies. IMO MRIs are a must if you have dense breasts. Ultrasounds should be a standard with anything suspicious. Good luck and keep us posted....

My mammographer was involved in a study that added ultrasound to mammography whenever dense breasts were detected. Never heard the results of the study, but I had both for years before the year they found my DCIS.
