I hope it is a fibroidenoma (sp?) they can be painful. The other symptoms could be stress related.

I too am waiting. I have 2 lumps and redness but did have an injury. Diagnostic mammo is tommorow. If I need a biopsy I will stroke out having to wait 2 weeks.

    Hi Joanne!

I'm so sorry that you're having to deal with all of this. But don't let it ruin your holidays! You've done everything you can do for now. You've seen your doc(s), have a biopsy scheduled... There is nothing more you can do until you get the biopsy results. And nothing you do (or don't do) will have any effect on the biopsy results. (Read up on "magical thinking" if you can't make yourself believe that...)

Eighty percent of biopsy results are benign, and there is no reason to think that you will be in the 20%. So try not to borrow trouble that may not be yours! You need to build your own mantra for turning your thoughts aside when you start to worry...something like:

I have a good medical team. I've turned this problem over to them. Nothing I do (or don't do) will change the biopsy result. So I will ________________.

Fill in the blank with whatever you can do now! Enjoy the holiday. Bake cookies. Enjoy music. Dance. Read a good book. Go see new "Star Wars" movie when it comes out. Whatever keeps you busy and gives you something else to focus on.

HTH, and here's to B9 results for you after your biopsy!

    Hi Valstim!

You have even better odds than Joanne! This is from the Imaginis site, which has additional info about the screening process:

    image

On the above diagram, note that your goal is to fail to be advanced farther "up" the diagram. Each one is a narrower group of people. You didn't "fail" the first screen (You didn't say that you had a Screening Mammogram, but if so, then, you were in the 10% of people who had a Screening Mammogram, and are being sent on for a diagnostic workup/additional diagnostic mammograms/ultrasound/MRI).

Of all of that 10% screened who are sent to a diagnostic workup (where you are now, whether or not you had a Screening Mammogram), only 25% are sent on to a biopsy--that is, 75% people "fall out of the screen at that point.

Of the 25% who are sent on to biopsy (not your category yet!) 80% will be told their biopsy doesn't show cancer.

You're early in the screening process. There are at least two distinct layers of screening you'd have to get through before you could even have the possibility of a cancer diagnosis.

I know it's easy to worry, but really. Try not to borrow trouble that isn't yours yet.

Hope you fail to advance in the diagnostic process very, very soon!
