Lumpectomy done and looks almost like half of breast is gone.
I had my lumpectomy yesterday for DCIS. Hopefully that is all they find but based on the amount of breast tissue that was removed I have some doubts about what the bs suspected. She did an US before surgery and showed me where the tracer clip was and where a large hematoma was caused by the biopsy. The microcalcifications were outer breast almost in arm pit and they were said to be a small cluster. So why the huge amount of breast tissue that was removed! She said she had to do something next to the muscle and in my post op haze I can't remember more. I'm a barely B in cup size but this breast is now an A and looks very droopy.
Has anyone else woke up to find more missing than they anticipated?

Wait awhile to see how it turns out. After mine, I thought they had done a mastectomy by mistake! But everything was just all mashed up from being pushed around. It should look better soon, but thank goodness someone told me that it can take up to a year for the fat to shift around and fill in the dents, because it took about that long for my breast to reach it's final shape (which I was very satisfied with).

I agree, give it time. After my lumpectomy I was shocked by what I saw and also felt that half my breast was missing. As swelling went down and tissue healed, there was barely any difference between my breasts. Hang in there:

Nonethless, I too am a B and although the cluster of calcifications was small, I too thought I had way too much taken out. A week after my lumpectomy, my breast looked bigger than the non-lumpectomy breast. Then I had drainage and its back to looking sunken. Its like a rollercoaster, but I guess until it's healed we won't really know how everything settles in there! Ruthbru, thanks for the info, its encouraging!

My best example is; I had a lumpectomy in March and that first summer I could not wear my favorite soft cupped bathing suit because the difference in size was too noticeable. I had to buy a suit with a wired bra to mask things. Anyway, I liked that suit so much that I kept it and the next summer, when I tried it on, I could wear it again! A very gradual process that I didn't even realize how far I'd come until I put on that suit.

Thanks for the encouragement. It's 3 days later and it doesn't look as misshapen as it first did. But I'm thinking that after the swelling reduces it will still be a size off. As far as fat moving around and filling in the dents, I won't count on that as I never had much fat in my breasts. They are "extremely dense" per the mammogram so that means less fat proportionately.

I felt scar tissue rose to the challenge and filled the gap. Not sure if that was it, but after a while, my breast looked just like it did before.
