Skull Metastatic

The radiation oncologist is talking about giving radiation doses for small skull metastatic lesions. I am hesitant since she says the radiation will come in contact with my brain and I will lose my hair. Has anyone else had radiation therapy on skull metastatic lesions and what was the outcome?

Our President and Founder, Dr. Marisa Weiss, is a radiation oncologist in the Philadelphia region and just respond with this:

They can use a form of radiation (electrons) that has minimal to no brain exposure.

However, if there are brain and skull areas of involvement, then radiation therapy can be done to both (with another more common form of radiation: photons).

Hi Debs

I had rads to the skull earlier this year; no impact on the brain but I did lose hair on the radiated area. The hair began to grow back about 3 weeks after the treatment finished. The met was obliterated and it was well worth it for the pain relief.

My result was totally different. My regular oncologist ordered another MRI and noted radiation residual in my brain where there previously was none three months earlier. She unnesseccarily radiated a very large area of my skull, way larger than the met. Most of my hair fell out immediately and its been four months and none of my hair has grown back. I look hideous now without covering up. She also refused to give me a medical record of the location, size, and invasiveness of mets when i asked her instead she left a falsified letter with the receptionit stating i was incompliant with treatment , she tried to call but i wouldnt answer or return, she sent a certified letter that she was closing my chart, all lies I have my phone records and never got a letter. She refused to come out and talk to me after I read her letter. She scheduled me for 10 sessions to hips and arm which I completed and then 10 sessions to the skull. I did the ten to hips and arm, but only three to skull because my gut told me something wasnt right she also falsly stated in her letter that I had eight sessions to the hips and arm and 5 to the skull. What the hell . I feel like she purposely knew what she was doing and ruined what little bit of life I have left
