hi people

In the last year and half on chemo weekly (😳😳😁😁) I've gotten some really compassionate and caring care from my nurses. I have my own nurse pretty much ; but occasionally I get another nurse. There are like 13 chemo nurses and other support staff in the chemo room.

I'm looking for ideas 1. For my chemo nurse and 2. Just to gift the other people working hard to take care of us.

Please suggest ideas and things you may have done in the past. Thanks a bunch. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. Have a nice comforting day.

Hugs

Diana

Maybe a gift card for your primary nurse and you could bring in chocolates or cookies for the whole gang? I know I some times mine are having bagels, so that's an idea also if you are going in early in the morning. But the cookies and chocolates may last longer?

    thanks ML.

Bagels are a great idea. They get a lot of cookie and candy. I was thinking about a gift card for primary nurse. I've know her since 2002 when I was first Dx. We have long history.

    Thank you.

I usually bring a bottle of wine for my doc or his NP. Whomever I'm seeing gets it :-)

They see a lot of food around the holidays. One option would be to give your "holiday" gift in April.

I have given all the nurses in my infusion center a bar of homemade soap. I have a lady I know who makes them and I buy them at $3 a bar. Usually I give my nurse a gift bag with a candle a couple bars of soap. I think they also all really like hand lotion. I have heard many times how dried out their hands get from constantly using the sanitizer and washing.

Pajim, Has a good idea also about the wine, I've seen people do that for onc and his nurse. I was worried about coordinating the bagel idea, maybe someone is assigned to bring them in so you could get a gift certificate for that too and leave it on the nurses station and they can figure out when they want to use it?

Jen, homemade soap is brilliant! It's a traditional craft that's also a luxury for anyone.

A good friendbrings me olive oil soap from Turkey -- it's wonderful!

I gave them a variety of teas (boxes of tea bags), including some of my discoveries of unusual and hard-to-find ones. Caf, decaf, herbal. I figured they could put them in their break room to share.

I give my local nurses (there are 2) a gift certificate to a take and bake pizza place, holiday paper plates, napkins and holiday candy. Maybe not the most healthy or creative idea, but I think we all enjoy an easy meal :)

    thanks people.

All great ideas. Gifting in April. πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

It's true about their hands. Gloves on pretty much all day.

Now I just don't know what to choose. I knew my peeps would come through.

    Thank you

Although I always have had the same oncologist, there are several nurses in the (large) chemo treatment center who administer my treatment. Since I have been neglectful in properly thanking my oncologist and nurses in the past, I plan to make up for it. I have my 28th Doxil treatment this week, so my appointment is prior to the holiday rush. I have been going through chemo treatments for 4 years, so I purchased 4 bottle of wine from my oncologist's home country and tomorrow I will be picking up 4 large tubes/bottles of Aveda hand lotion for the nurses. I have very nice thank you cards for them too.

Does this sound reasonable? Thanks for your input:)

My plan to get Aveda hand lotion for my chemo nurses worked out even better than I planned. I went to the Aveda store and I got 4 tubes of Hand Relief moisturizing cream (by coincidence they only had 4 tubes left). The tubes are from the pink October and have pink labels that show $4 of the purchase price supporting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation; plus they have pink caps. Besides being useful, these tubes of hand lotion will look appropriate at the chemo nursing station.

this is a little different subject but still about thankfulness. 2 weeks ago at chemo the snack lady gave each of us a present from a family whose husband & father has chemo. It was Mary Kay body cream & lip cream. All nicely wrapped & including a card. One present for every patient! The wife & some of her friends organized the giving by donating points etc so all of us could have a present. I cant till your how kind this was as I don't have family & don't celebrate - haven't had a present in years. What a loving thing for this family toΒ do. There are a lot of patients at this facility so it was truly generous. Just wanted the goodness of these people to be known. April
