Post-biopsy bleeding question

I had 3 biopsies yesterday: 2 MRI-guided & 1 stereotactic. I had a 4th stereotactic a few weeks ago with no issues afterward (no bleeding or swelling).

I have had some bleeding from the 3 biopsies I had yesterday and have continued to try to apply pressure (but the areas are sore) and am continuing to ice the areas but can't reach anyone at the radiologist/imaging facility as this has continued to today.

More like spotting on the ice pads when I change them out.

I have only taken Tylenol since the biopsies.

Should I be concerned and/or try to have the radiologist paged?

I am worried about the long holiday weekend and not getting anyone unto Monday.

I have the steris-trips on but wonder if there is any type of wound pad I can have my husband pick up to put between my breatss and bra o keep my getting blood on bra or any type of compression pad or bandage to try?

Balthus, so sorry that you are worried. My suggestion is to 1) review the release instructions you got after the biopsies to make sure that you are following all the directions and 2)call the test center and ask to talk to either the radiologist or a nurse. The nurses in the testing center should be able to advise you on what steps to take and/or reassure you that everything is normal and they are more likely available to talk to you.

3 biopsies in one day is a lot, so no wonder you are tender. As far as compression, I wore a tight fitting bra and placed a folded washcloth between the fabric of my bra cup and breast when I didn't have the ice pack there. 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. That "padding" will help provide more compression and you can always add more until it becomes uncomfortable.

I had these done yesterday so 24 hours ago. How long should I be using ice packs on & off? I will try the washcloths. I have been calling & empaling the facility since early morning but no reply. They had told me they were open today. Could I use thick gauze pads so I can toss them? Thanks.

my place gave me some pads to use that had a layer that would not stick to the wound, not sure what they were called but sure your nearest pharmacy should have them

strange that no one is answering the calls, you may want to head over to a clinic to have them look at it, lousy that stuff happens on holidays

Yes, you can use gauze pads but you will need a lot of them to create the compression you need. I suggest you use an old washcloth that you can fold to get 4 thicknesses. If it works, you won't mind losing a washcloth, right? 24 hours should be enough time for icing. Just do the compression at this point. Did your center provide you with instructions?

yes the instructions said place your hand over biopsy site & apply firm continuous pressure for 7 minutes by the clock. recheck area. if bleeding persists reapply pressure and phone doctor.

I did that yesterday late afternoon. they asked if ice pad was full of blood. i said no just spotting. they said that was ok, still really spotting but thought it would stop by now,

husband getting thickest nonstick pads & will go try the folded washcloths.

stereotactic biopsy in left breast and the 2 mri biopsies in right. they are on side of breast closes to arm pits not interior or top or bottom. i was able to fold washcloths almost in 4's and stick in bra. i also have a spanx bra pulled up over the regular bra. thanks.

Thank you for suggesting the folded washcloth. I think they did the trick. I did that after you posted & fell asleep and just checked and no blood. I now have them folded in half instead of quartered.

The imaging facility did also call me a couple of hours ago and told me that the person whose direct line I was calling had decided to take today off to get an early start for the holiday and that there was one radiologist there but I had to be there in 20 minutes which was not going to happen. They did say that the spotting was "normal" and that I only needed to be concerned if it was "gushing". Really!

Hopefully the soreness will go away in a few days and I can just go back to worrying about the results.
