I was first diagnosed with BC in September after my 1st routine mammogram at age 43.My biopsy showed 2 spots of invasive ductal carcinoma on my right breast, the first was 5 mm and the other was 2 mm.Grade 2, ES/PR+ and HER2+ (fish). I had a lumpectomy on 11/5 and that pathology report showed me to be at Stage 2 because one of my masses is actually several small ones in a 2.5 cm space, and they are treating that as a single 2.5 cm tumor (0/2 nodes).I was doing OK until I got this news today—I was so sure I was Stage I.

Mentally I know it is still an early stage and I should be thankful I caught it when I did.But I'm going a little crazy with how it could go from 5 mm from the biopsy pathology report on 9/18 to 2.5 cm after the surgery pathology report on 11/5?I question whether the lumpectomy was the right choice, because what if I have a lot more going on than they caught on mammogram and MRI?

I'm just a little more scared about what this all holds for me down the road—but I guess many of us feel that way.Just venting.

Rbylake - I'm sorry. I know what a difference those "little" changes can make. Emotionally it's hard to constantly adjust to all of this. I'm sure it feels very different to be Stage II rather than Stage I as you've been thinking for 2 months. The realities of this disease ARE hard to accept. I don't have any solutions but want to encourage you to vent as much as needed, to keep asking lots of questions, and to hang in there.
