Birad 4 pleomorphic calcifications
Went in 2 weeks ago for routine first mammogram at age 42. Found calcifications and went in for higher resolution mammo and in my report it reads large grouping of fine pleomorphic calcifications at the 12 o clock position and scheduled me for a stereotactic biopsy this Tuesday morning. I am a Birad 4 suspicious. I know it can be just due to tissue changes but I am frightened.
Paternal grandmother had breast cancer in her 60's or 70's and had radiation. Not sure what kind she had so there is a family history of BC but only her that I know of. Maternal GM died of ovarian n cervical cancer at 60. The worry is they are fine, grouped and pleomorphic. Is it still a good chance it's just tissue changes?

I'm sorry you find yourself here. There is really no way to "know" prior to your biopsy, other than the odds that,in general, more than 80% of Birads 4 biopsies are benign. .don't get hung up on genetics yet. Only an estimated 5-10% of breast cancers are genetic as far as we now know. The fact that your relative's cancers were at advanced ages and on opposite sides makes it even more unlikely that you are at genetic risk.

the pleomorphic fine and grouped words are what have me scared

we understand, megmir! It can be very nerve-wracking. One day at a time, and remember, it can be a number of different things. We're all here for you!

for me last March this represented Atypia . Crappy but not cancer... Yet.
Keep us posted and hoping for the best for you

I will definitely keep yall posted. What is atypia?
-
Atypia is when the cells are looking funky--not like normal cells in terms of their shape and other characteristics like their nuclei, but not as messed up as cancer cells either. I've had atypia for almost 20 years now. That, plus other things like a mother who died of breast cancer, makes me a high risk patient, but that just means that I get screened twice a year. Good luck!

i had my stereotactic biopsy yesterday morning. Pretty sore and bleeding some. Seems like steri strip might need to be fixed. They took 10 samples out. Is that normal to take so many? Thought it would only be 3 or so. Supposed to hear results today or tomorrow. The waiting is driving me crazy. Keep looking at my phone.

got my report from stereotactic biopsy.
Fibrocystic changes with: Fibrosis of mammary stroma adenosis microcalcifications apocrine metaplasia cyst formation
All of this and everything I looked at looks completely benign. Can anyone tell me if I'm right on this? I have to see Dr. on Tuesday morning but got this on my own from hospital now because didn't want to wait until then. Thank you for any insight yall can give me on all of these words.

Megmir, not cancer. It is the other non-cancer funky stuff that they find 80% of the time with a Birad 4. Your appointment should be pleasant. Make sure you get a good feel about next steps from your doctor.

You are right. I had almost exactly that grocery list on my last biopsy, and as someone here told me - "in other words, aging breasts".
-
I'm glad you had positive results it gives me hope for mine. I just saw the report Birads 4-5 with a 3.5cm mass and clustered pleomorphic calcifications. Still hoping for a good biospy result. With a little luck I should have it today or tomorrow.

I'm glad you got good results, megrim. That's always a huge relief. :-)
