Side Effects and FEC-D?

I know a lot of Canadians have this protocol and it is the one my mom is having. How long does it take to start having side effects (if you get any)? She had her infusion yesterday at 12:30 p.m. and so far she has had mild weakness and a lot of burps but that is it. She is on a lot of anti-nausea drugs so I am thinking they are actually doing what they are supposed to be doing. Is she out of the woods in terms of serious side effects or can they still come days later?

Thanks!

Melanie, hope your mom is coping well with chemo. My personal experience was that the first FEC was not too bad. The second round was the worse, it hit me as soon as I left the hospital. Nausea was very bad, couldn't anything but toast and plain rice. The third one was fine. My side effects lasted for 3 days and manifested soon after the chemo session. I kept hydrated and used salt water to rinse my mouth and took the anti nausea meds as soon as I felt it.

The D-part was a different story. The side effects started 3-4 days after chemo and were mostly joint pain. Mouth thrust was kept under control with water and baking soda rinses. I was given Neulasta shots to boost the immune system.

There is thread under chemo forum called FEC-D and that you can read. I don't think it is very active now.

I just started this today. I had my infusion around 11, I thought my absolute worst at 8 PM, queasy and dizzy and hot and cold and just miserable. Like the stomach flu but nothing gross actually came out of me. I took a stemetil and started feeling better pretty quickly. I still don't feel awesome, but nowhere near as miserable as I did a little while ago. They said to only take the stemetil if I need it… I guess I do!!

I wish I could find a more active thread about this protocol. Melanie, I hope your mom is doing Ok.
