I am already ready to give up. I am 36 and have extremely dense breast an have lots of lumps so in February I had a duct removal for discharge and it came back with benign ductal hyperplasia. I had a follow up mammo in May and all normal. I recently noticed an indenting at 12 right above the nipple and mammo shows thickening/distortion. They canceled my ultrasound and sent me for mri. Birads O. BS says it could be scar tissue from duct excision but can't be sure. MRI results back they show no findings to correlate what they seen on mammo.Birads O now they referred me to ultrasound. I don't get it isn't MRI better than ultrasound and mammo? how can it not see my . What if ultrasound doesn't show any thing what then? Do I give up and assume scar tissue?

My little adventure started with a screening MRI (which I have done every year because I too have dense breasts and a very high risk profile). The MRI found something, so the next step was an ultrasound--which didn't find anything. I think that proves that whatever was on the ultrasound wasn't a fluid-filled cyst, so the next step for me was an MRI guided core biopsy. That found some benign features that may be masking a more concerning diagnosis, so the whole area has to come out. I'm scheduled for an excisional biopsy next week. The whole process is taking so long, but I guess they have a protocol they step through as they're investigating this stuff--eliminating the most likely problems first before they go on to more invasive, surgical procedures. It sounds like your doctor is doing that. Hang in there. Hopefully, the final conclusion will be that it *is* just scar tissue. It's so hard when you don't have any definitive answers.

Soo excisional biopsy for me wasn't to bad. I pray yours will be all good! My ultrasound today showed nothing but cysts and now I have no reason ad to why I have an indent. Radiologist seemed annoyed that I asked soo many questions. He recommended a follow up in 6 months. I feel more uneasy now because MRI and ultrasound showed no scar tissue so why the indent. Guess I just have to let it go. He made me feel dumb for wanting to know what's causing it. Anyhow please keep me posted as I will be thinking of you next week.
