Tightness on my chest

edited October 2015 in Living Without Reconstruction After a Mastectomy

My aunt just had a mastectomy with no reconstruction. She said it constantly feels like her chest is wrapped in duct tape as it is so tight all the time. She is 104 days post op and tightness feeling has not changed. It keeps her up and night and drives her crazy during the day. Is this normal and does it ever improve? Thanks in advance for help.

    Check into getting a referral to a physical therapist for her. Look for one who has experience with breast cancer patients. She should see some improvement if she does this.

    I agree with BayouBabe, a physical therapist would be an excellent idea, and one who treats breast cancer patients would be ideal. Your aunt may need myofascial release to free up adhesions and scar tissue. I had that type of PT, very gentle but so helpful.
