Second Opinion after dx or after surgery? Worth going to NCICC?

I was dxed 10/13 with ILC in right breast, size about 2 cm, ER+PR+ Her2- (FISH) after MRI, biopsy, ultrasound and digital mammogram. Having bilateral on 11/9/15 with reconstruction. I am 47, premenopausal. I live in a medium size city but no NCICC or university hospital near here. Closest is in Richmond, 3 hours away. I feel comfortable with my BS and PS, haven't met Oncologist yet, they do that here after pathology from surgery.

Any benefit to getting a second opinion now or it is more important after surgery when I know what treatment they recommend?

Hi Truffles1968, and welcome to BCO. We are sorry you are here, but glad you found us. We encourage a second opinion, especially with a team that specializes in breast cancer, so that you can feel good about the decisions you are making, including surgery. Do what will make you feel the best about your decision(s).

my closet NCICC is 4 &1/2 hours from home and that's where I was treated. The nurse navigator provided resources for hotel rooms when needed. At a very reduced rate. I am very happy that I chose to get a second opinion. I think it would be well worth a Trip.
