When I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in December 2013 (on Christmas Eve) my children were 2, 3 and 5. I explained breast cancer and the treatment to my children and they understood a great deal of it. I also told them a story. "One day a bird pecked on my window and ask my help to fight a dragon. I got my sword and found the dragon. He was big! He was scary! A battle started. The dragon scratched me with his big sharp claws. He scratched my right breast off. Then he started breathing fire and he burnt all the hair of my head. I finally managed to wounded him and he got scared and flew away, hopefully never to return. My bald head and scar on my chest are proof that although I might look like a normal mum, I'm really a Dragon Fighting Warrior Princess."

We love that story. As a family project we turned this story into a 3 minute movie.
Hope you like it! We would love it if this story and video would be of value for other families.

I love your story. Will look at your video but all is quiet now so that will wait for tomorrow. So creative and fun for the kids.

Mine were 2 and 5 when I was diagnosed. I just told them I had an ouchy. My youngest offered a band aid and looked a little devastated as it wasn't so long before he was still nursing and my breasts were his place of comfort. My oldest pressed me for info. I finally told him what it was and he got pretty scared. 8 months prior he learned about the heroic Terry Fox, he was scared that I would lose my leg (a bit funny to me) and scared I would die (waaaaay less funny) He's just turned 6 but sure knows what is going on. He asked if my prosthesis was so people couldn't tell. I told him it was.

They both like to rest their head on/in my hollow spot and cuddle in for stories. :-)
