Period back after 17 months?

Not sure if this is the in the right place, but I hope someone will chime in. My sister finished chemo in August, 2014, hasn't had a period since. In fact blood work showed menopause and she switched to Arimidex after a short period of time on Tamoxifen. She is bleeding this week - not sure if it's a period (a recent scan showed a thickened endometrium and a cyst on her ovary). So - we are wondering if it's possible that maybe she never was menopausal or if we are looking at something more serious.

Has anyone else had a period return after 17 months?

hi Jen. I'm sure sone others will be along soon. In the mean time, I can't tell you about my experience. I went into chemopause for over a year (14 months). My period came back with a vengeance. It was pretty scary. However, it turned out to be submucosal fibroids and endometriosis. No cancer. She can definately talk to her gyno and have them assess her. They can do a biopsy of her cervix and ultrasound to rule out any serious issues. We'll keep our fingers crossed that your sister's issue is nothing serious.

Thanks so much! She has an appointment later in the week with a gyno-onc; I'm going with her. As of now, we are assuming it's a period and not a problem. I will post back after her appointment

Hi Jen. Yes it is possible. I finished my chemo the exact same time in August 2014 and had no period for 14 months. They stopped after my second chemo. It came back with an angry vengeance July 2015. Regular periods every month ever since. My oncologist was surprised because I am 40 and have not had it for over a year. But yes it can happen

I had chemo at 46 and lost my period on the taxol phase of chemo. My period came back briefly but regularly (every 27 days). I had a biopsy done and it was nothing but a normal period. I was not on anti-hormonals though because I had triple negative BC. Now it has been over 4 years since I have had a period and I will be going on anti-hormonals.
