I was told to stop drinking green tea prior to my radiation treatments. I was told to restart after 2 weeks once I'm done with treatment. Anyone who had a same situation

Hi Luttece. I think now they're recommending to stop all antioxidants, including green tea during radiation. Nobody bothered telling me to stop any of these things ever, chemo or rads, so I just continued on as normal. I get why they're saying it (trying to kill rapidly dividing cells, free radicals, etc.) but I, myself am a tad skeptical it makes a huge difference. I suppose the prudent thing to do would be to follow doctors orders if you're concerned.

This just not make sense to me, if green tea and anti-oxidants are bad during radiation. Wonder what it is based on. Green tea is so good for so many things, but the extract is dangerous. see at livertox.

Yes, my radiation oncologist also told me not to drink green tea during treatment.

This seems to be the current recommendation.

Radiation oxidises. They are trying to oxidize any random stray cells. Cancer cells supposedly are more susceptible to oxidation. Green tea would also be protective to those cancer cells, and they don't want to give the cells a chance! I see a lot of dr's and peeps at my treatment place drinking green tea, think they might be onto something?

I thought green tea killed cancer cells.
