Been lurking for a few weeks, just got pathology report from excisional bx. Basically says "extensive LCIS". I would like to get more detail, such as histology, and 2nd opinion from large cancer center (U.S.) I've seen Johns Hopkins, Vanderbilt and Cleveland Clinic mentioned in some posts..anyone have any further input for me on this? Thank you to all who post on this site, I have learned SO much in a very short period of time. Very grateful I found this site.

Memorial Sloane Kettering. Any NCI designated cancer center, which are frequently university hospitals

I think it would be very valuable to know if you have some sort of classic LCIS or if you have a 'variant' form like PLCIS. Yes, I know the terminology can be awful, and at least when I was diagnosed with LCIS 10 years ago, different websites (from major universities) defined LCIS differently.

Here's a more recent (2012) description of LCIS types from UCSF. http://www.ucsfcme.com/2012/slides/MAP1201A/18YiCh...

I hope that as time has gone by that more pathologists agree on a definition of LCIS and its types, but I can't guarantee it. My 2nd opinion on pathology at an NCI-designated center was about 10 words long; my original pathology report was much more descriptive. The only change that my NCI-designated center did was change 'LCIS with features of ALH' to 'LCIS with ALH'.

    Best wishes, Leaf

Leaf, that's what I was trying to avoid, a second opinion that just says "lcis". Would really like to know type...

Liz, did you get an opinion from Dana Farber or MD Anderson and if so, did it have detail on type?
