Vitamin D range question
Can someone help me with some lab results I just saw online...I don't know what the normal range is. The top number seems to fall into the normal range according to the 25.0-80.0, but I don't know what the other 2 mean and I've read conflicting info on this. Anyway, just looking for some insight. thanks

Hi tangandchris, your Vitamin D levels are low, at 26.3ng/mL This labs normal range is way low at 25 to 80ng/mL, for the lower level of normal. I have read that people with chronic health conditions like cancer need to aim for around 50 to 80ng/mL at a minimum, and not higher than 100ng/mL. As usual the recomended Vit D levels are woefully inadequate for optimal health. The recommended levels lower range is not much above the minimum to avoid osteomalacia or rickets, certainly not enough to have good health. I think the studies on bc and Vitamin D levels get mixed results because they ignore the interactions of Vitamin K2 and the other fat soluble vitamins like E and A with Vit D. Well, that is just plain sloppy science.
It is extremely important to pair Vitamin D3 with Vitamin K2. The Vitamin K2 tells calcium to stay in the bones, and not in your blood vessels, thus lowering risks for heart disease and Osteoporosis. Vitamin K2 is found in cheeses like Gouda and Edam, butter from grass fed cows, a fermented soybean product called Natto that is eaten frequently in Japan (they have very low levels of bc and osteoporosis despite being a low dairy consuming country). Vitamin K2 is not the same as Vitamin K that is involved in blood clotting. Seems kind of strange they are both called Vitamin K even though they do very different jobs. Both Vitamin D3 and Vitamin K2 are available in supplements. Read up about it. Look at the Vitamin D Council site.
Sorry, just looked back at your info again and theVitamin D2 levels are part of the computed 25-OH Vitamin D levels. Vitamin D2 can convert to Vitamin D3, but it is not an optimal conversion. Thats why people taking Vitamin D2 supplements often have trouble getting their Vitamin D blood levels into an optimum range.
