Complication after breast biopsy...1 swollen underarm lymph node

Options

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone else had a complication, like mine listed above, shortly after their breast biopsy? I'd never experienced any underarm swelling prior to the procedure. (It was a vacuum assisted core biopsy of my right breast.)

I reported it to my doctor and was sent for an ultrasound. One axillary lymph node was swollen. It was biopsied this morning, because of my IDC diagnosis.

The biopsy doctor todaysaid it might not be cancerous & may have swelled only in response to the breast swelling after my vac assisted biopsy.

I have to wait a few days for this new pathology report, so I decided to search for a similar case. But I'm unable to locate anything like it here on the "discussion board search" or anywhere else on the Internet.

Thanks for any information you might be able to provide!

I had this -- they scheduled a biopsy of my lymph node for a week after they found it;.
When I went in, there was nothing seen, nor has any problem occurred in my lymph nodes in the 7 yrs since my treatment ended.

It was just swelling from my biopsy. Hope you experience the same thing

Oh, thank you very much! That's eases my mind (although I'm sorry to hear that you had this swelling problem, too.) It's also nice to know you're doing well 7 yrs after treatment. Xoxoxo

I had this as well. A left axillary node that was seen as large on my MRI report, made my dr worry.

It was irritated from all of the blood work and the biopsy done on that side. My breast surgeon took fluid from it and sent it to a lab, came back negative.

So sorry your here but best wishes to you and stay positive !!

Thank you too, Jinx27. It helps a lot to have both you, & ICanDoThis, share your experiences with me.

Now, this "waiting time" suddenly feels less isolated, foreign & unexpected.

Now I know it's an unfortunate experience that's happened to other women before me.

2 brave women just jumped right in here & offered comfort that reached my soul.Xoxoxo

My sentinel node was enlarged but was negative for cancer, they figured it was just from the biopsy even though it had been more than a month.

The waiting is so brutal. Hope you get your answers soon. Hugs.

Thank you, Calidancer! Its great to know your node was benign. Yes, waiting hasn't been easy for this (or any of the many, many tests.)

Well, I am supposed to find out today at my oncology consult.

After reading your response, & the others, I've got a good feeling that my biopsy is will be clear. (If anyone's following this topic, I'll post the results.)

    Hugs back to you,

    Queen Liz the faux

P.S. No matter what happens, it feels so comforting to have all of your hugs, good wishes & support!

Well, I went to the oncologist & found out some unfortunate news.

The breast cancer has spread to that swollen lymph node.

The oncologist sent me to have blood work drawn after my appt. On Monday, I'll be getting multiple CT scans to determine if it's spread to any of my organs. If my blood work or scans indicate signs of cancer, a PET scan will be ordered.

(This order of tests may be different than normal. That's bcuz I have a cardiac issue that needs checked, via a CT scan, before any surgery or chemo treatments.)

Despite the bad news, I'm still am very thankful for the reassurances you all provided. It made "waiting time" pass by much easier!

Even if I do get more bad news, I still feel good knowing this forum exists. Your caring hearts & support are a wonderful gift : )

I had a core needle biopsy and today, 10 days later my lymph node under my arm on the same side as the biopsy is very swollen and sore. It was not before the biopsy. What did you find out about yours?
