MRI showed up a 7mm lump but the U/S couldn't find it
I found out the start of this year that I had the BRACA1 gene, I was then referred to the Breastcare centre in Hamilton to talk to the surgeon about having a double masectomy. Being 26 they didn't think a Mammogram would show much so was sent for an MRI. The MRI showed up a 7mm lesion so doc sent me in for an Ultrasound to get a biopsy done, but the U/S couldn't find the lump?? I am so confused as to what is going on and would love some insight to see if this has happened to anyone else?

Liv25 I'm so sorry you are going thru this. I, unfortunately, don't have an answer for you. I'm in "limbo" currently waiting to get my MRI done because mammogram and US have not registered a mass, but it can clearly be felt by the Gyno, BS and myself. Big Hugs to you and I hope you get answers quickly!!

I can sort of relate. I'm 31. I had a mammo and ultrasound done that found nothing. The MRI found something! I was sent for a second look ultrasound and still they cannot see anything. The next step is an MRI guided biopsy, which you will probably need as well since the mass was not seen on ultrasound.

I can also relate, first two ultrasounds and 3 doctors found a lump but when I went in for the biopsy the ultrasound found not find anything so no biopsy was done. Confused and scared and unhappy the way the radiologist thought i should be when the said hey no biopsy for you here is the door goodbye.

My cancer was also not picked up by mammogram nor ultrasound. Even when they knew where the "tumor" was (from MRI), the ultrasound did not show it, so I had to go back for a second MRI to get the biopsy. It was the only screening device that could locate it.

I have also had suspicious areas that did not show up on mammograms or sonograms. I think that may be very common. I have extremely dense breasts and I was diagnosed primarily with pleomorphic lobular carcinoma and pleomorphic LCIS, which is not easily seen on imaging. (I have had 14 breast biopsies/lumpectomies to date plus the sentinal node surgery too.)
Regardless of what was seen on your imaging, if this were me, I would be concerned about the positive BRCA 1 results. I would discuss implications with your genetecist and with your doctors so that you can formulate a tx plan.
Good luck.

Wallycat:
Your cat is adorable.

614, Thank you. She is from a litter of 5, the rest all males. I named her Bandita and my brother-in-law suggested Phantom-bandita (from phantom of the opera) due to her eye "patch."

My boyfriend had a cat that looks like yours. His cat just passed away 2 weeks ago
at 17 & 1/2 years old and his brother (cat) is still alive and being pampered. The brother is all black.
Enjoy Bandita.
