Infections during chemo.....
hi I'm on a three week programme and have completed 2 ... Next week is no 3 and I've another infection.. Do I just have to expect that this will be the norm.. Had been doing so well this time , walking and enjoying the simple things again... I suppose it just got me a bit down!

Josie, so sorry to hear about your troubles. It would be helpful if you'd write more about what is going on, what your doctor says about it, etc. and maybe put in a diagnosis and treatment so others can chime in if they have similar things or advice for you. Hope you feel better soon
Also, I am not sure but, the mods may move this thread because it might be in a spot they use for information so it might work better in another place "before during and after treatment" maybe

I went through a difficult infection after my 5th infusion my port became infected and I ended up with sepsis I was in the hospital for a week after removing the port then I had to get a picc line put in and gave myself iv antibitics at home 3 times a day for 4 weeks it was a complete pain in my ass but happy to say I made it through and received a complete response to chemo..you will make it there will be ups and downs but you will make it through!

Josie, are they giving you the Neulasta shot? It helps boost your immune system post chemo. I had Neulasta, but I still got two UTIs, the second one landed me in the ER one night. It's pretty common to get infections I'm afraid. Hang in there, you're almost done

Hi sjacobs146 yes I get that shot ... I just thought this round ( my second) i was doing so well and feeling so well snd then boom a swollen tonsil!! Just want to get through them. Next Monday will be my 3rd and I have 6 to do! Are you finished??
-
thanks!! It helps to know it's not uncommon... I think I just have at accept I'll get these infections throughout. Next Monday will be my 3rd session... I have 6 to do... You are all finished?

I also got the Neulasta shot and still got 2 infections. The first one popped up a week after my 2nd treatment. It left me yucky for a day but the antibiotics seemed to do the trick. The next one popped up a week after the 3rd treatment. That one landed me in the hospital for almost a week as my port was infected. They removed my port and I had a picc line for 4 weeks while I received 24 hour antibiotics. After that though I was able to avoid infections.
