piscow, I'm sorry no one has yet responded to your question. I had lumpectomy and then SAVI brachytherapy which is multi-catheter radiation delivered 10 times over 5 days. I had no side effects, just uncomfortable for the 10 days the device was in. I think the balloon radiation type is a little different but the same length of treatment. You might want to use the Search tool on this site (left column) and type in brachytherapy or mammosite and read the responses on previous threads to learn more.

I had the balloon brachytherapy and had no side effects. The worst problem I had was an allergic reaction to the tape used to secure the catheter, which caused an infection. It's kind of a hassle not to be able to shower while the catheter is in, but well worth the inconvenience in my opinion.

They want me to be part of a trial with balloon therapy. After reading all the side affects I am having serious doubts. The oncologist told me I had the smallest cancer she has personally seen. I am thinking of just doing the lumpectomy and nothing more. I will be 70 in December. I am having such a hard time making decisions and I have done a lot of research except for hearing from people who have actually had it done. Thank you for your response
